While busy tracking down histrue roots to potential long-lost brother and fellow award-winning actorWoody Harrelson,Matthew McConaugheyis set to climb back on his horse for another upcoming major feature project. Per areport from Deadline, he will be teaming up with director Andrew Patterson for a new crime thriller calledThe Rivals of Amziah. Black Bear International and WME Independent will be selling off the project during the international festival at Cannes.

The Rivals of Amziahis set to be the next major crime thriller from Andrew Patterson, who will be serving as director, producer, and writer for the feature set in his home state of Oklahoma. He previously debuted his very first filmThe Vast of Night, which was picked up by Amazon Studios. Other producers on the project include Harry Potter alum David Heyman and Jeffrey Clifford of Heyday Films, Teddy Schwarzman of Black Bear International, Michael Heimler, and Will Greenfield. Executive producers are Rob Silva, Christopher Casanova, and John Friedberg. Matthew McConaughery is the only confirmed cast so far.
While most of the plot details and other prospective cast remain tightly under wraps right now, the film is set to be a character-focused, deeply atmospheric crime thriller with the remote Oklahoma landscape as the backdrop. McConaughey will star in the lead role of Amziah King.
Producer Schwarzman remarked of the unique opportunity to partner with both Patterson and McConaughey on what he assures will be an exceptionally crafted feature.

Most recently McConaughey appeared in Guy Ritchie’s action comedyThe Gentlemen(2019), and has reprised his voiceover role of Buster Moon in Illumination’s animated flickSing 2(2021). He is also currently in negotiations to star in one ofYellowstone’s planned sequel spin-offs, has an Apple TV+ series planned with Woody Harrelson andSchitt’s Creekcreator David West Read, and is helming Netflix’s animated seriesAgent Elvis, lending his voice to the legendary crooner while also serving as executive producer.
