TheMasters of the UniversestarJóhannes Haukur Jóhannessonhas offered an update on the long-gestating reboot of the beloved ‘80s franchise. Jóhannesson, who can currently be seen making his MCU debut as Serpent Society member Copperhead inCaptain America: Brave New World, has revealed that filming on the Amazon movie is set to start very soon.

Speaking withDeadlineat the premiere for the MCU sequel (which has proven to be surprisingly divisive), Jóhannesson offered some insight into whenMasters of the Universewill go before cameras, the prep it has taken to get there, and the “fun script” that will shape this new take on He-Man.

“We started prepping in November last year, filming starts I think in about a week or so…couple of weeks. Up until now it’s been a lot of weight lifting and rehearsing, but we’re about to get into it and we’ve got a really fun script that everyone in the cast loves. We can’t wait to get on set and perform it. That will be great.”

He-Man’s Parents Have Now Been Found

Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, who is also known for roles in the likes ofAtomic Blonde, Bloodshot, andInfinite, will star inMasters of the Universeas Malcolm, AKA Fisto, a powerful warrior with a metal fist who ranks second in strength only to He-Man himself. Reluctant to join the battle against Skeletor, Fisto eventually becomes one of the hero’s most fearsome companions. The rest of the cast includesNicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam, AKA He-Man, Camila Mendes as Teela, Jared Leto as Skeletor, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Sam C. Wilson as Trap Jaw, Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson as Goat Man, Morena Baccarin as The Sorceress of Castle Grayskull, and MCU star Idris Elba as Man-At-Arms. As per a recent report byTHR, He-Man’s royal parents have also now been found, withRomeandSolomon KanestarJames PurefoyandEdge of TomorrowandLondon Has Fallenstar Charlotte Riley now cast as King Randor and Queen Marlena.

Traditionally, King Randor is unaware of his son Prince Adam’s alter ego as He-Man, while his mother, Queen Marlena is suspicious that her son is up to something heroic. It is currently unknown whether this will be the case in Amazon’s reboot, asrumors have claimedthat the story will begin with Prince Adam being sent to Earth for his own protection before returning to Eternia two decades later.

Fans eagerly awaiting the arrival of ‘Masters of the Universe’ starring Nicholas Galitzine have been given sight of what could have been instead.

ParaNormanandBumblebeedirector Travis Knight will helm theMasters of the Universemovie, with Amazon MGM Studios stepping in after the project was suddenly canceled at Netflix after years of development and a reported $30-60 million spent. The script has since been rewritten by Knight’s long-time collaborator Chris Butler (ParaNorman, Kubo and the Two Strings) and will be based on the initial draft penned by David Callaham and Aaron & Adam Nee.Masters of the Universeis scheduled to be released on June 11, 2025.
