Seth Rogen’s newest comedy series,The Studio, which debuts onAppleTV+in spring 2025, features a cavalcade of celebrity guests playing the worst versions of themselves imaginable. Everyone from Anthony Mackie, Adam Scott, Ron Howard, and Zack Snyder to Olivia Wilde, Zoë Kravitz, Charlize Theron, and Ice Cube appear on the show.
But there was one guest star who stood out from the rest, both in the scene and behind the scenes:Martin Scorsese, venerable director, producer, and sometimes actor. His role is integral to the overarching plot, which involves Rogen’s character, Matt Remick, attempting to make a film that, in actuality, is a long product placement ad for Kool-Aid.

Best Movies Written by Seth Rogen, Ranked
Known for his comedic acting and gruff laugh, Seth Rogen has been part of the writing team on many movies. These are the best he’s written, ranked.
In aninterview with Vanity Fair, Rogen and his creative partner Evan Goldberg revealed that directing the legendary filmmaker was quite intimidating. In particular, they chose to shoot his scene with a single camera rather than multiple setups, which they feared might seem like an amateur move.

“We actually had a whole second camera crew stashed away in another room in case he had a fundamental issue with the way we were shooting,” Rogen states. “Luckily, he was like, ‘Oh, it’s like French New Wave,’ and was enthusiastic about doing it in that way.”
Still, Scorsese did have some opinions about the direction of the scene. After Goldberg noticed Scorsese repeatedly talking quietly to one of the other actors, he inquired, “‘What were you whispering that whole time…? [Scorsese] was like, ‘That you were doing the wrong thing, and I was waiting for you to do the right thing. Then, you did the right thing. But I didn’t want to say it because I didn’t want to be rude. I knew you’d get there eventually.'”
