A live-action adaptation ofBleachis on the way and the first trailer is now online. Warner Bros. is currently in the business of bringing popular manga to the big screen, with the live-actionFullmetal Alchemistmovie arriving on Netflix this week and now,Bleachis set to debut in Japan over the summer. Since comic book movies have become such massive properties, it only makes sense to try and branch out tomanga, but we’ve yet to really see a truly great adaptation so far. However, this first brief teaser forBleachlooks quite promising.

Even for those who haven’t seen the very popularBleachanime or read the manga that the series was based on, this teaser is intriguing. There’s a giant, pretty good lookingCGI monster, a Japanese boy killing said monster after being stabbed through the chest with a sword, who is then seen wielding a much bigger, pretty awesome sword rather gloriously at the end of the trailer. There should be plenty of imagery here to get people on board with thisBleachlive-action movie. Could this truly be the great manga adaptation fans have been waiting for?

While we don’t have an official synopsis for the movie, it looks like it’s going to follow the manga rather closely. This first trailer is quite good, all things considered, but it is very much a teaser and pretty flashy. It doesn’t give us much to chew on, in terms of potential story. Especially if youdon’t speak Japanese. With that in mind, here’s a synopsis of theBleachmanga, to give an idea of what could be in store when this movie arrives.

“Ichigo Kurosaki has always been able to see ghosts, but this ability doesn’t change his life nearly as much as his close encounter with Rukia Kuchiki, a Soul Reaper and member of the mysterious Soul Society. While fighting a Hollow, an evil spirit that preys on humans who displaypsychic energy, Rukia attempts to lend Ichigo some of her powers so that he can save his family; but much to her surprise, Ichigo absorbs every last drop of her energy. Now a full-fledged Soul Reaper himself, Ichigo quickly learns that the world he inhabits is one full of dangerous spirits, and along with Rukia, who is slowly regaining her powers, it’s Ichigo’s job to protect the innocent from Hollows and help the spirits themselves find peace.”

This teaser reveals that theBleachlive-action movie will be released in Japan on July 20. There’s no word yet on a possible domestic release, but since Warner Bros.‘Fullmetal Alchemistmovie made its way toNetflix, it seems possible that the same could happen with this movie as well. There’s always a chance that they could do a limited theatrical release of some kind domestically as well, but we’ll have to wait and see as far as that’s concerned.
