In what comes as a surprise to absolutely no one, the fate of the hitParamount+seriesLandmanhas officially been revealed by the streaming service, which is to say that Season 2 is a go. Created byTaylor Sheridanand premiering late last year,Landmanstars Billy Bob Thornton as Tommy Norris, and is set in the West Texas oil fields where roughnecks and wildcat billionaires are fueling a boom so big it’s reshaping our climate, our economy, and our geopolitics.
Per Deadline,Landmanhas been renewed for Season 2 following the tremendous success of Season 1. Not only was it the best debut in two years for a Paramount+ original, but the series holds the record for the most-watched premiere and most-watched season finale of any series on the streaming service. When you consider they’ve brought us other such hits from Sheridan asTulsa King,Mayor of Kingstown, andLioness, that’s quite the accomplishment for the drama.
The Most Insane Moments in ‘Landman’ Season 1
The success of ‘Landman’ can be attributed to the intriguing plot and the impressive performances, as well as some genuinely insane moments.
Inaddition to Thornton,Landmanalso features such heavyweights as Ali Larter, John Hamm, and Demi Moore in her first ever TV role, to name a few. Its Season 2 renewal was perhaps the worst-kept secret in Hollywood, as a recent casting call in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram looking for stand-ins and extras pretty much gave things away, while at the same time noting that production on Season 2 is expected to begin later this month. Filming on the first season lasted four months from February to June 2024, with the series premiering in November. This makes it possible that Season 2 ofLandmancould end up premiering later this year if things go off without a hitch, but that has yet to be confirmed.
‘Landman’ Season 1 Received Rave Reviews
Premiering on Jun 23, 2025,LandmanSeason 1 not only hit it big in terms of its viewing numbers on Paramount+, but in the reviews that praised the series for being “gripping, wild, and hilarious.” It’s Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a rating of 78%, with Alison Herman from Variety noting that it “has the masculine bravado and conservative milieu ofYellowstone, Sheridan’s flagship red state soap opera, but also builds an immersive, detailed world in the sun-baked Permian Basin that anchors the show in observed reality.”
Johanna Schneller from The Globe and Mail said “LandmanmakesYellowstonelook like PBS,” while others praised the performance of Thornton. “Cigarettes and Dr. Pepper pairs together like spaghetti and meatballs for the harrowing protagonist of Taylor Sheridan’s latest gold mine of a television series,” saidMovieWeb’s own Will Sayre in his review, adding:
“The new Paramount+ show has genuinely gripping plot developments throughout, frequent splashes of vintage Thornton-style humor, and equally consistent and insightful glimpses into the West Texas oil industry scene and its effects on the world.”
Thus far, there’s been no new news in terms of casting announcements for Landman Season 2, so while we do know that the principal members will be returning, it remains to be seen which other big names they’ll bring with them.
