Surprise, DC Fans! The very first trailer for SyFy’s upcoming seriesKrypton, which takes place in the world of DC Comics years before the birth of Superman and showcases his family legacy, has arrived online. It doesn’t appear that SyFy intended for theKryptontrailer to be unleashed on the world just yet, but the cat is out of the bag now and there is no putting it back.
This first trailer forKryptonsurfaced on Vimeo before making its way onto YouTube and, even though SyFy didn’t officially release the video, at least seemingly, it most definitely appears to be legitimate. If not, this is one of the most beautifully produced and professional quality fan videos to surface online in a very long time. Whether SyFy likes it or not, fans now can get their very first look atKrypton, which appears to be massive in scope and truly cinematic. Here is the official synopsis forKrypton.
“Syfy’s Krypton, the much-anticipatedSuperman prequelset two generations before the destruction of the legendary Man of Steel’s home planet, will followSuperman’s grandfather, whose House of El was ostracized and shamed, as he fights to redeem hisfamily’s honorand save his beloved world from chaos.”
Warner Bros. has not said that this show will be directly connected to the events of the DC Extended Universe, but the trailer definitely makes it seem like a part of that world. Plus,Man of SteelandGreen Lantern Corps.writerDavid S. Goyerwrote the first episode of the series and is credited as an Executive Producer. So it is possible that this will ultimately be considered part of the canon in the DCEU. For whatever it may be worth, IMDB hasKryptonlisted as a TV movie. That could mean that the first episode is longer than usual, perhaps a 90-minute episode to kick things off or something like that.
The trailer itself gives us our first look at Superman’s grandfather, the man credited with creating the legendaryhouse of El. That is something that his heavily teased in this firstKryptontrailer. The footage also features some voiceover from Kal-El’s grandfather, who, if this show is actually connected to the DCEU, would be the father ofRussell Crowe’s Jor-El fromMan of Steel. There are also lots of big visual effects shots and quite a few shots that give a sense of what life onKryptonwould have been like before it was destroyed.
Quite a few people have been disappointed with the recent DC Comics-based movies that Warner Bros. has been churning out, but things have been going very well on the TV side of things. So there is good reason to believeKryptoncould be worth your time, especially if you’re a hardcore Superman fan. There is no premiere date set forKryptonyet, but the trailer promises that the series will arrive in 2017. Be sure to check out the very first trailer for SyFy’sKryptonfor yourself below.
