The future of Jon Snow in theGame of Thronesfranchise is not entirely clear. Previously, there had been reports ofKit Haringtonreturning as the character in a planned sequel series, though the show hadn’t been officially greenlit by HBO. WhileHouse of the Dragonhasn’t been affected, other tentative spinoffs to the series are currently on the shelf amid cost-cutting measures and other changes at HBO. That leaves the future of the Jon Snow series and other potential spinoffs uncertain as of this time.

But that’s not going to stop people from asking Harington about the rumored project. It came up during a recent appearance onThe Tonight Showwith host Jimmy Fallon quizzing Harington about his Jon Snow role. Commenting on the rumors, Harington says he does miss the attention he used to get during the peak ofGame of Thrones' popularity, playfully suggesting he’ll do the spinoff just to start getting bombarded with selfie requests again. As Harington says in the interview, when asked if the spinoff was happening:

“Well, I don’t know. Do you want to have it? Yeah, I can’t say anything on that, but, I don’t know, man… I walk down the street, and I get recognized a little less nowadays, and it kind of hurts my ego, you know? No, I’m pretty close to, like, putting on some furs… I’ve got a tally in my head of how few photos I get asked for in a day. And when it gets below a certain number, I’ll do the spinoff."

Fallon goes on to tell every Kit Harington fan watching that they shouldn’t bother the actor at all for the next few days, hoping that this will very soon result in the Jon Snow sequel series actually happening.

George R. R. Martin Says the Spinoffs Are on Hold

On hispersonal blogin December, George R. R. Martin said that the Warner Bros. Discovery merger had resulted in plannedGame of Thronesspinoffs getting “shelved.” He was also quick to note that this didn’t mean that these projects had been necessarily canceled, and shared his hopes that at least one of these other planned shows, which would include the Jon Snow spinoff, would get an official series order soon.

“A couple have been shelved, but I would not agree that they are dead,” Martin said. “You can take something off the shelf as easily as you can put it on the shelf.”

He added, “Some of those are moving faster than others, as is always the case with development… None have been greenlit yet, though we are hoping…maybe soon.”

While it remains to be seen what happens with the otherGame of Thronesspinoffs, fans can look forward to a second season ofHouse of the Dragon, as that show has previously been renewed for season 2 following an acclaimed first season. The show can be streamed on HBO Max.
