Avengers: Doomsdayis the next big event film in the MCU, and Marvel Studios has a lot riding on this next big ensemble.Doomsdaywill be the first mainlineAvengersfilm (not countingThunderbolts*and its surprise title change) since 2019’sEndgame, featuring a new roster and the surprising casting of Robert Downey Jr. as the iconic villain Doctor Doom. The crossover film will feature a variety of teams and characters, one of the most exciting being Marvel’s First Family, who will make their debut inThe Fantastic Four: First Stepsthis July. Now, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has confirmed that the upcomingFantastic Fourmovie will be integral to theDoomsdaystoryline.

During a presentation at the CineEurope trade show, Feige talked about future Marvel Studios projects, providing an update onthe production ofAvengers: Doomsdayand letting attendees know that the film is “now shooting in London.” The focus would shift toFantastic Four: First Steps, and Feige confirmed what many had already assumed about the film, saying that the “events of F4 will lead directly intoDoomsday.” One of the main reasons this isn’t that much of a surprise is because of the post-credits scene ofThunderbolts*, which teased the arrival of Marvel’s first family via rocket ship.

Kevin Feige Revealed the Plot of ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ and It’s Not What Some Fans Expected

The head of Marvel Studios revealed what fans can expect from the upcoming ‘Avengers’ movie at CinemaCon.

The Fantastic Four: First Stepstakes place on an alternate Earth to the mainline MCU, allowing the film to feature not only a retro-futuristic 1960s aesthetic, but also to be free from the constraints of continuity. The setting will help sidestep the technical struggle of building upon a pre-existing team in the already massive MCU. Hence, one of the main questions fans will have going into the film is how they end up where they are in the post-credits scene ofThunderbolts*.

‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Will Connect Directly to ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Kevin Feige putting massive importance onThe Fantastic Four:First Stepswhen it comes to the plot ofAvengers: Doomsdaymakes sense, mainly because of the stiff competition at the summer box office. Teasing a connection to the nextAvengersfilm is definitely a way to get audiences invested in a story, especially since the team will be inDoomsdayand interacting with the Avengers, and possibly even the legacy actors returning to theirX-Menroles from the original trilogy.

Moreover, Doctor Doom is first and foremost an enemy of the Fantastic Four. WhileFirst StepsdirectorMatt Shakman has confirmed that the villain won’t be in the movie, it will still be interesting to see how the multiversal travel of the team connects to Doom’s presence in the nextAvengersmovie. The Russo Brothers have kept quiet about any details involvingDoomsday, making the capacity of the team’s role a mystery for now.

It has been a little over 10 years since the lastFantastic Fourmovie, and this will also be the first time that the team exists within an interconnected universe. While the team won’t be interacting with any other heroes in this installment (that we know of), fans can look forward to Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s version of the characters becoming part of a larger team-up directed by the Russo Brothers inAvengers: Doomsday, and presumablySecret Wars.
