Although Marvel Studios revealed much more than many expected during San Diego Comic-Con, there were certain rumors that needed a little extra coaxing fromKevin Feigein later interviews. One of these was the possibility ofGhost Ridermaking an appearance in the MCU, and whetherRyan Goslingcould be in line to bring the Spirit of Vengeance to screens once again. However, for those hoping to the see the popular character joining the MCU in the near future, Feige had a disappointing update.

WhileGhost Riderhas previously been played by Nicolas Cage in two live-action movies and by Gabriel Luna inAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D, there have been many rumors about the character being rebooted again to appear as part of the MCU ensemble. However, while there have been numerous stars fancast in the role, fromThe Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus to Keanu Reeves, a recent name added to the list of possible stars to take on the part is Ryan Gosling. While it seems Kevin Feige would love to have Gosling in the MCU in some capacity, it will not be yet and seemingly not as Ghost Rider. Feige toldMTV News:

Ryan Gosling in The Gray Man

“If Ryan wants to be Ghost Rider, Gosling’s unbelievable … Ryan’s amazing. I’d love to find a place for him in the MCU. He’s dressed up as Ken on Venice beach and he gets more press than giant movies coming out that weekend, it’s amazing.”

Ryan Gosling Was Previously Rumored To Play Nova in The MCU

Ghost Rider may be the character that Ryan Gosling would like to play, but until recently he was also being tipped to play Nova in a limited Disney+ series. While Gosling himself shut down these rumors earlier this month, theNovaseries was one of the projects that failed to materialize as part of Phase 5 during the SDCC panel this weekend. However, there are currently no Phase 6 shows announced, meaning it will likely be announced at a later time once we move a little further down the line.

In the recently releasedThe Story of Marvel Studios: The Making of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Kevin Feige discusses how he wanted to use characters like Daredevil, The Punisher, and Ghost Rider but was not able to due to the mature nature of the characters. Now Daredevil will be getting a new 18 part series entitledDaredevil Born Again, so it is not surprising that many fans have been hoping for news of a similar plan forGhost Rider. However, there are still plenty of years of Marvel movies and TV shows to come, so it is not surprising that Kevin Feige doesn’t want to play all his cards in one go.

For now, fans will have to look to the likes ofBladeand theWerewolf By Night Special, which also failed to materialize as part of the SDCC reveals, for their dark, supernatural kicks in the MCU. However, Feige was previously reported to have been plotting out a ten-year plan for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, meaning thatGhost Riderwill likely still feature somewhere in the future, just not yet.
