Lucy Hale posted an emotional message to her fans on social media after theKaty Keenecancelation news dropped. TheRiverdalespin-off was not picked up for a second season by The CW for reasons that are currently unknown. Season 1 ended on May 14th, which will now serve as the series finale, at least for the time being. Hale says that the show was “one of the highlights” of her life and that it was a “joy from top to bottom.”

She attempted to record a message to fans a few times, but ended up crying, so she had to redo it. “I was like, I don’t want to just post a picture or a caption because nothing would do justice to how I feel aboutKaty Keeneor how I feel with the people involved with it,” she said. “We did not get picked up for a second season, which happens. It’s happened a few times to me and each time it’s just like… just heartbreaking. I mean, it’s a job that has broken my heart numerous times.”

The actress called it “the role of a lifetime” for her, along with the cast and crew of the show. Lucy Hale concluded her message by stating, “I think that sometimes things just don’t work out and maybe it was just not the right time for it, I don’t know, I’m a little confused.” Fans ofKaty Keeneare probably more than a little confused themselves since the show was pretty popular on thestreaming side of things. With that being said, there may be a light at the end of the tunnel for the series.
Katy Keeneis currently streaming onHBO Maxand it could end up finding a new home there for a second season. The CW has apparently extended the option window for the show until the end of this month, and many are speculating that HBO Max will pick it up for season 2.
