We can be sure that a familiar snowman will be present inFrozen 3with the same familiar voice in the role. This week, it was revealed that Disney has multiple major sequels in the planning stages, and that includes the official announcement of thelong-rumoredFrozen 3. Also announced by the House of Mouse areToy Story 5andZootopia 2, giving Disney movie fans a lot to anticipate in the coming years.
Taking to Twitter shortly after the news broke,Josh Gadconfirmed that he’ll be back once again to voice Olaf for the thirdFrozenmovie. It’s not a surprise, given his close association to the role, but it’s still good news for fans who love Olaf. In a tweet, Gad wrote, “Excited to head back… into the Unknown.”
Joking that all three of these newly-announced sequels could be merged into one big crossover, The actor also tweeted, “I mean I guess it could also jsut as easily be a crossover event. ToyFroTopia?”

Gad debuted as the voice of Olaf in the originalFrozen, released to huge success in 2013. The story introduces the character as a magical snowman created by Elsa (Idina Menzel) and Anna (Kristen Bell) who becomes a friend and lifelong companion for the two. The character returned for the theatrical sequelFrozen IIin 2019, which was similarly a big hit at the box office. In 2020, Gad had teased howOlaf could be back on the big screenfor a potentialFrozen 3.
“I don’t know if and when there will be aFrozen 3,” he said at the time, viaPopCulture.com. “But we’ll see! If there’s always a story worth telling, I’m sure that Jennifer Lee and the incredible team over at Disney animation will tell that story one day.”
Meanwhile, Gad has continued to voice Olaf outside of theFrozenmovie series. He had had his own short films, such asFrozen Fever,Olaf’s Frozen Adventure, andOnce Upon a Snowman. Olaf was also given his own miniseries on Disney+ dubbedOlaf Presentswhich featured the character spoofing other Disney movies likeThe Little Mermaid,Moana, andThe Lion King. The character has also been used for various video games with Gad providing the voice.
Gad’s other recent film work includes voiceover work as the ghost Muncher for the 2021 sequelGhostbusters: Afterlife. On the small screen, he can be seen in main roles in the showsAvenue 5andWolf Like Me, while he also does voices forCentral Park. Last year, Gad appeared as himself for a special cameo in the superhero satire seriesThe Boys.
