We are about to enter another dimension for another full season as Jordan Peele’s reboot of The Twilight Zone will live on. It’s been confirmed that CBS All Access has renewed the series for a second season following its debut earlier this month. Peele, whose directorial credits include hits such asGet Outand this year’sUs, serves as a producer on the series, in addition to his duties as host. Peele will presumably be back in that same capacity for season 2.
We’re only four episodes deep into season 1, but the network clearly feels they have something worth exploring further and they want to stay in theJordan Peelebusiness for at least a little while longer. Understandably so. Simon Kinberg, best known as a longtime writer and producer on theX-Menmovie franchise at Fox, also serves as one of the chief creative forces behind this new version ofThe Twilight Zone. Julie McNamara, Executive Vice President, Original Content, CBS All Access, had this to say about the renewal in a statement.
“Jordan Peele and Simon Kinberg’s reimagining of The Twilight Zone is off to an amazing start on CBS All Access, driving the most viewers on its premiere day for an original series to date Jordan, Simon, the creative team and cast have done a phenomenal job translating the series' legacy ofsocially conscious storytelling for modern-day audiences. They are master storytellers, and we look forward to bringing fans further into The Twilight Zone with a second season.”
The show’s first season lined up an incredible cast. Adam Scott, Tracy Morgan, Ike Barinholtz, John Cho, Lucinda Dryzek, Taissa Farmiga, Greg Kinnear, Luke Kirby, Sanaa Lathan, Kumail Nanjiani, Rhea Seehorn, Allison Tolman, Jacob Tremblay, Seth Rogen and Steven Yeun, amongst others, all appear in episodes of the show. The debut episode,The Comedian, was headlined by Nanjiani. Per CBS, the episode drove the highest level of unique viewers ever on a premiere day for an original show on CBS All Access.
Netflix remains king of the hill in the streaming game, but things are becoming increasingly competitive, with Disney+ on the way, as well as Apple+ and more. The Twilight Zonewas created by Rod Serling and originally debuted in 1959, running for 156 episodes. There were previous attempts to revive the show in the past, with the most recent, prior to this, coming in 2002, featuring Forest Whitaker as host. It ran for just one season. It’s not yet clear when we could see season 2 of the reboot head into production. Jordan Peele is rather busy and in-demand these days. Though, he’s yet to announce his directorial follow-up toUsjust yet.The Twilight Zoneis set to air its fifth episode of the season,Six Degrees of Freedom, on Thursday, May 2.
