Well, with the filmmaker and former stuntman busy helming thelong-awaitedHighlanderreboot starring Henry Cavill, as well as guiding the continuingJohn Wickfranchise, Stahelski has now found the time to produce a chillingly topical comic book adaptation.
In a new report via The Hollywood Reporter, Stahelski is now all set to produce an adaptation of the comic book hitCalexit, which drops readersinto an alternate version of America. Though, when you read the details, you’ll wonder how “alternate” it really is.

Coming courtesy of indie publisher Black Mask Studios,Calexitis written by Matteo Pizzolo, with artwork by Amancay Nahuelpan and Tyler Boss. Pizzolo will return to write the script for the adaptation, with THR revealing that the movie will, like the comic,take place in a future“where America’s president signed an executive order to deport all immigrants, with California responding by proclaiming itself a sanctuary state.” The eerie feelings of familiarity should be kicking in about now. The story follows “Jamil, a war zone courier/smuggler, and Zora, a young leader in the Mulholland Resistance, who attempt to escape Occupied Los Angeles, a city under martial law.”
‘Calexit’ Could Spark an Epic Action Thriller Franchise
Calexithas not yet found a studio or streamer for release, but with that plot, it surely won’t be long before someone picks up the project for distribution.Unless Hollywood feels it mightall hit a bit too close to home. Time will tell.
