Jerry Seinfeld’s new film as a director, co-writer, and star,Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story, is coming to Netflix on May 3. The film follows a quasi-fictional battle between Post and Kellogg’s to develop a shelf-stable pastry, which is given the kind of ‘space race’ treatment when it comes to importance and gravitas. It’s like Looney Tunes remakingThe Right Stuff, wacky and wonky all the way. Creating it was a lot of fun for Seinfeld (since he was surrounded by great comedians like Jim Gaffigan, Bill Burr, and Melissa McCarthy), but something took him by surprise — people worked hard.Seinfeld questioned why these people gave so much of a sh*t. After all, for him, film is finished.

“These movie people are unbelievable. They’re insane,” Seinfeld toldGQ. “We had a prop master, Trish Gallaher Glenn. She had a room and it was floor-to-ceiling toys and bikes and clothes, everything from that era.Everybody does their job 150%. It is weird.” He elaborated:

The Curb Your Enthusiasm Finale Fixed a Major Seinfeld Problem

It was totally new to me. I thought I had done some cool stuff, but it was nothing like the way these people work. They’re so dead serious! They don’t have any idea that the movie business is over. They have no idea.

The Curb Your Enthusiasm Finale Fixed a Major Seinfeld Problem

Seinfeld’s series finale was infamously polarizing – a problem that Larry sought to correct 26 years later, in the finale of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Seinfeld Says ‘Disorientation Has Replaced the Movie Business’

Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story

“Film doesn’t occupy the pinnacle in the social, cultural hierarchy that it did for most of our lives. When a movie came out, if it was good, we all went to see it. We all discussed it. We quoted lines and scenes we liked,” continued Seinfeld. “Now we’re walking through a fire hose of water, just trying to see.” So what does Seinfeld think has occupied the place of film in culture? He explained:

Depression? Malaise? I would sayconfusion.Disorientation replaced the movie business. Everyone I know in show business, every day, is going,What’s going on? How do you do this? What are we supposed to do now?

Here are the best quotes from Jerry Seinfeld from his hit television series, Seinfeld.

Unfrosted Is a Zany Star-Studded Comedy

Jerry Seinfeld may think that film is dying as a cultural institute, but he’s made a big one withUnfrosted. It’s a silly and fun picture that feels like a Saturday morning, watching cartoons and eating cereal with way too much sugar in it. The cast is huge, with some of Seinfeld’s favorite comedians and actors — Melissa McCarthy, Jim Gaffigan, Amy Schumer, and Hugh Grant make up the main cast.

However, the film also stars a cavalcade of famous faces in bit parts that don’t get more than a couple of minutes on screen. Some of those actors include James Marsden, Bill Burr, Christian Slater, Peter Dinklage, Jack McBrayer, Thomas Lennon, Bobby Moynihan, Maria Bakalova, Max Greenfield, Dan Levy, Tony Hale, Dean Norris, Sebastian Maniscalco, Cedric the Entertainer, Fred Armisen, Kyle Mooney, and Mikey Day, plusJohn Slattery and Jon Hamm making aMad Menreunion of sorts in one of the film’s best scenes.
