As reported byPEOPLE, longtime Hollywood starJane Fondarecently recalled the “powerful” closure she had with her father,Henry Fonda, before his death in 1982. A clip from theGrace and Frankiestar’s upcoming appearance onWho’s Talking to Chris Wallace(shared with PEOPLE) shows Fonda recalling the details from the emotional moment that she had with her father after she was asked by host Chris Wallace if the two were able to resolve their differences before the elder Fonda’s passing.
Fonda told Wallace, “Before he died I was able to tell him that I loved him and that I forgave him for, you know, whatever didn’t happen. And I hope that he would forgive me for not being a better daughter. I got to say that to him.” She continued, “He didn’t say anything. But he wept. I had never seen that before. I’d never seen my father break down and weep. And I— it was, it was powerful.”

TheMonster-in-Lawstar’s dad was best known for his work in 11940sThe Grapes of Wrath,and 1957’s12 Angry Men. Back in 1975, the outlet described Fonda’s father as “respected for his talent but widely disliked for his abrasive egotism and vanity,” which was said to lead to the elder Fonda having a somewhat rocky relationship with his daughter as well as his son, Peter Fonda.
In the clip, Wallace admitted to having a “challenging relationship” with his father, the late journalist, and60 MinutesCorrespondent Mike Wallace. In response, Fonda noted that it was “so important to try to clear everything up” with loved ones before it’s too late to do so.

Jane Fonda Declared That She’s ‘Not Scared of Dying’
Fonda stated, “You know, I’m not scared of dying.” She then asked Wallace, “Are you?”
While Wallace said he’s “not looking forward” to the inevitable, Fonda replied, “I am. It’s an adventure. I kind of, you know, I don’t want to go, I still have a lot to do.”
She continued, “What I’m really scared of is getting to the end of life with a lot of regrets when there’s no time to do anything about it.” Still, the actor noted that despite having “very few regrets,” she does wish that she’d taken a different approach when it came to being a parent.
Fonda stated, “I was not the kind of mother that I wished that I had been to my children. I have great, great children, talented, smart. And I just didn’t know how to do it.”
