Avengers: Infinity Warhas officially been rated PG-13 by the Motion Picture Association of America. TheMPAAis responsible for reviewing and rating every single movie released in the United States and, though sometimes there is a surprise or two thrown in the mix, often times, the ratings are more or less in line with what a viewer might expect. In this case,Infinity war’s rating should come as no surprise, but the fact that this movie is rated and ready to go should serve as a beacon of excitement for Marvel fans everywhere. After literally years of waiting, this movie is finally almost here.
The MPAA has rated the latestAvengerssequel PG-13 for “intense sequences of sci-fi violence and action throughout, language and some crude references.” Captain America may take issue with some of the language, given his expressed sentiments with bad words inAvengers: Age of Ultron. But there are bigger fish to fry and Steve Rogers may be a bit too preoccupied to concern himself with some crude language this time around. Thanos is coming andThe Avengersare the only thing standing in the way of him destroying half of all life in the universe. Bring on the sci-fi violence and action!
Given that every single movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to datehas received a PG-13 rating, this isn’t all that shocking. A PG rating would be too softball and Marvel Studios isn’t ready to start toying with the idea of R-rated movies. At least not yet. If and when the Disney/Fox deal is approved, Ryan Reynolds andDeadpoolmay have something to say about that, but that time has yet to come. So, PG-13 it is.
But this is exciting because it means thatAvengers: Infinity War, as it will be shown in theaters to Marvel fans all around the world on April 27, is ready and in the can. This isan event that is an entire decade in the makingand, at the very least, has been teased since Thanos first showed up in the post-credits scene inThe Avengers. This is something the likes of which no movie studio has ever tried before and in just a couple of weeks, we’re going to get to see if Kevin Feige and the powers that be at Marvel managed to pull it off. And as long as you’re 13 years or older, you can go see it without a parent having to buy a ticket for you.
There’s no telling just how much moneyAvengers: Infinity Waris going to make, but it’scurrently outpacing the last seven MCU moviescombined in pre-sales. So expect it to break records. Reviews will be key, but since Marvel is adamant about avoiding spoilers, they’re not letting reviews go up until just ahead of the release. That’s probably for the best. The important thing is, theMPAAhas givenInfinity Wara rating. It’s ready to go. Now it’s just a matter of exercising a bit more patience.
