Hulk Hoganis the latest famous Donald Trump supporter to question Vice PresidentKamala Harris' racial identity. Hogan’s comments follow Trump’s bizarre uncertainty surrounding Harris’s race, and aracially charged post byHercules' Kevin Sorbo. During July’s National Association of Black Journalists conference, Trump asked a room full of Black journalists if Harris was Indian or Black. Harris, like over 10% of the US population, is multiracial; her father is Jamaican, and her late mother was from India.

During a Medina, Ohio, event to promote his new beer, Real American Beer, Hogan (real name Terry Bollea) asked the crowd:

“Is Kamala a chameleon? Is she Indian?”

As if that wasn’t enough, Hogan followed the comment with a stereotypical hand gesture attributed to Native Americans and made remarks about body slamming the Democratic Presidential nominee. In a video (viaTMZ), Hogan is seen asking a cheering crowd:

“Do you want me to body slam Kamala Harris?! Do you want me to drop the leg on Kamala?!”

Hogan is then heard acknowledging that he will “get heat for that one,” before adding that it “was the beer talking.”

One day later, Hogan seemed to change his tune at a follow-up event in Columbus, Ohio, preaching unity instead of racist rhetoric and wrestling politicians. Speaking withThe Columbus Dispatch(which was told that any questions regarding Harris “were off limits”), Hogan shared:

“I think the people of Columbus should know that as crazy as this world is right now and as crazy as the times are, we’re a lot more alike than we are different. I think if people would just sit down and talk, they would realize that we all care about a lot of the same things; love, peace, health, safety.”

Donald Trump is Hulk Hogan’s Hero

Last month, just days after Trump’s July 13 assassination attempt, Hogan gave an impassioned speech at the Republican National Convention. In true Hulkster fashion, he ripped his shirt to reveal a Trump/Vance tank top underneath. During his address, Hogan praised Trump as his “hero” and the “toughest of them all,” and spoke about the attempt on Trump’s life. Given the recent incident and the overall divisiveness of US politics ahead of November’s presidential election, it’s wildly unethical to promote violence against candidates in an effort to work up a crowd… someone should let Hogan know.

While Hogan is one of the world’s most recognized wrestlers, he doesn’t exactly have a perfect record. A racist remark landed him in hot water before: in 2015, the WWE removed Hogan from their Hall of Fame after a tape (from 2007)showed him using the N-word in reference to his daughter’s boyfriend. At the time, Hogan called the incident the biggest mistake of his life. In 2018, the company reinstated him after Hogan made “numerous apologies” and worked alongside “young people, where he is helping them learn from his mistake.”

The Democratic Party is currently hosting their Convention in Chicago, where they will endorse Harris and Tim Walz as the party’s official presidential ticket.
