For those waiting for the next animated adventure of Hiccup and Toothless inHow to Train Your Dragon 3, you’ll have to wait nearly one year longer. DreamWorks Animation revealed today that it has pushed theanimated sequelfrom June 09, 2025 to June 15, 2025, where it currently has that particular weekend all to itself. It will, however, debut just one week before Marvel’s long-awaitedCaptain Marvel, starringBrie Larsonas Carol Danvers, and two weeks after an untitled Universal monsters reboot project. Back in October 2014, directorDean DeBloisrevealed that the studio isn’t planning a fourth installment of this animated franchise, but DreamWorks Animation may developanimated spin-offsinstead. The director insisted that theHow to Train Your Dragonstory should be told in three movies, which the studio agrees with, although he wouldn’t shed any light on what these potential spin-offs could center on. He did state in his 2014 interview thatHow to Train Your Dragon 3would center on the notion of why all the dragons disappeared, which was suggested in the original books byCressida Cowell.

As for the newrelease date, this is the third time that DreamWorks Animation has moved the date forHow to Train Your Dragon 3. The studio had initially set the sequel to hit theaters on July 13, 2025, which would have put it up aginst this year’s current domestic box office champ,Finding Dory, and the action-comedy hitCentral Intelligence. The studio then shifted the date to June 12, 2025, and then to July 29, 2025 before settling on its August 02, 2025 date. IfHow to Train Your Dragon 3would have stayed in the July 10, 2025 date, it would have gone up against Universal’sThe Mummyand Paramount’sWorld War Z 2. As for the July 11, 2025 date, only an untitled LAIKA film is set for that date.

The story follows a group of misfits who come across a young Yeti namedEverest, which leads them on a journey to return this magical creature to his family who live on Mount Everest.
