TheFive Nights at Freddy’smovie spent a while as nothing more than a rumor, but we werefinally given a release date. While many people are excited to see the game turned into a movie, many others don’t know a lot about the video game series. This leads to people wondering about what lengths the movie will go to besides the general horror genre.
For those who don’t know the game well, most of the time you play as a night shift security guard at a pizza party place similar to the real-world Chuck E. Cheese. However, not only can the animatronics roam the building freely, if they catch you they’ll kill you, even if it might not truly be their intention. Stuck in your office, you have to survive from midnight until six the next morning with various game mechanics to try and keep them at bay, so you can go home at the end of your shift.

However, the game gets a lot more in-depth the further into the franchise you get and the more you look at the hints. There’s a lot of lore surrounding them that reveals a darker and scarier story that we’ll be able to watch come to life.
The Movie Is Unlikely to Be Kid Friendly
DespiteFive Nights at Freddy’sinitial popularity being among school-age kids when the first game was released, the game was never really violent. The horror aspect of it came out of fear, not only from the animatronics hunting you but from the helpless feeling you have since you couldn’t run away. There was implied violence in the first game, especially as people delved into the secrets the game was hiding, but nothing was shown on screen. As the franchise continued, it didn’t all stay quite so implied, but they still didn’t show anything lifelike.

Even so, this seemingly kid-friendly setting is sure to scare anyone who comes into the theater. Not only will the story have to change some, as it’s not likely anyone would want to watch a feature-length film of a person sitting in an office, but there’s sureto be plenty of jump scares. There is also the chance that some of the previously implied violence gets shown on screen.
If there isn’t violence, and the scares still remain as the classicFive Nights at Freddy’sjump scares, even that might be too much for some kids. However, since a movie gives more chances to explore the hidden lore within the franchise, there’s even more of a reason to be wary of bringing kids, as the lore is sure to frighten them.

The Lore Means the Movie Is Likely to Be Violent
Across thewide expanse of games, there is an overarching story that, for the most part, had to be pieced together by the fans. From looking closely around the games for secrets to interpreting a mini-game to have an underlying meaning, there is a consensus that a lot of bad things have happened in these restaurants.
Take the first game, for example. The reason the animatronics are after you is explained as a strange piece of their coding. However, as the story progresses, and you learn more about what has happened, pieced together with a couple of secrets hidden in the game, you discover that several kids have gone missing in the restaurant. It turns out they were killed, and their bodies were stuffed into the animatronic shells to hide the evidence. This allowed them to possess said animatronics and is the cause of the attacks.

Some of the later games do get more into the slow decline of the pizza chain and the original owners, from unfortunate accidents to purposeful acts of violence. Though usually seen in a pixilated style, or an implied fade to black, the games alone show the probability that the movie will be violent. It has shown things like a kid dying after bullies stuff him into Freddy’s mouth, an adult putting on one of the animatronic suits and having it malfunction around him, and an employee being lured to a “scooping room,” where a piece of him was scooped out so that the animatronics could possess him instead. It’s safe to say that if the source material was willing to go that far, the movie will too.
The Animatronics Are Terrifying
If you have a fear of robots, you probably thinkall the animatronics are scary. However, the first game’s animatronics look just like what you might find in real life, besides the obvious dirt and grime built up. As the series continues, more designs were made to keep the content fresh. For some of them, it doesn’t matter what your opinion on robots is, they’re bound to scare anyone.

In the second game, two sets of animatronics come after you. One that has a more streamlined, toy-like look, and one that’s partially deconstructed, resulting in missing faces, hands, and eyes. InFive Nights At Freddy’s: Sister Location, the animatronics have a horizontal line and a vertical line in the middle of their face. This is so the faceplate can open up during the jump scares, maybe even specifically to pull you into it.
Perhaps the scariest designs so far, however, come out of the fourth game. This game is set in a house instead of the usual restaurants, and you play as a kid being haunted by nightmare animatronics. They’re not only worn out and beaten up, but they have demonic-like eyes and many rows of terrifyingly sharp teeth. No matter what animatronics the movie decides to include, it’s almost guaranteed they’ll be terrifying in their own right.
