Earlier this month, the Marvel Cinematic Universe kicked off its Phase 3 with the massive blockbusterCaptain America: Civil War, which has already taken in more than $1 billion worldwide after just a few weeks in theaters. While this immense success came as no surprise to most fans, Marvel had quite the shocking surprise up its sleeve earlier this week, when they debuted the new comicCaptain America: Steve Rogers #1, which revealed that, after all these years,Captain Americahas actually been aHydra agent. While we’ll learn more about Cap’s Hydra background in subsequent comic issues, new artwork has debuted that shows what Cap may look like in a Hydra uniform.
The artwork comes from artistBoss Logic, who took to his Twitter yesterday to showcase what he thinksChris Evans' Cap may look like in a Hydra uniform. Of course, this artwork isn’t official, and we don’t know for sure if the MCU will eventually adapt this new story. These images come just one day afterChris Evanshimself expressed his disbelief over this shocking turn of events through his own Twitter page.
This jaw-dropping revelation also comes as Cap celebrates his75th Anniversary, and in case you were wondering whether the Steve Rogers in this comic is some sort of a clone or an android, Marvel executive editor Tom Brevoort confirmed earlier this week that this is actually Steve Rogers, and not some alternate form of the hero. This story had been in the works for awhile, and it was revealed that Steve was recruited to join Hydra way back in the 1920s, when he was just a young boy, along with his mother.
Sam Wilson recently took over asCaptain Americain this current run of comics, and it was revealed after the issue debuted earlier this week that fans will get a better understanding of what is actually going on withSteve Rogers, and how he’s managed to work as an undercover agent all these years. Subsequent issues will offer a new side to Steve, showing who he truly is as a person. Most fans have already taken to social media to express their anger over making Cap a Hydra agent, and it seemsChris Evansisn’t a huge fan either.
While it’s possible that the upcoming movies inMarvel Phase 3could address this big twist from the new comics, we don’t know for sure if that’s the case or not.
