Now it certainly does look like Cavill has been in the cape again for another cameo appearance, but where that leads is another question. Unfortunately, the latest reports have now delivered a blow that Cavill’s newest cameo may be scrapped, potentially along with his entire return.
Of course, nothing is certain these days, with complete movies being canceled and green-lit projects being shut down all over the place. Is Superman’s Return Already Coming to an End in the DCU?
Between Dwayne Johnson’s constant social media posting and Henry Cavill’s interviews while promoting the Netflix movieEnola Holmes, Superman’s DCU return has been everywhere for the last several weeks. However, with Johnson and Cavill being managed by the same team, it makes sense that they would want to push for their DC future as much as possible. For the most part, the fans were more than on board with Cavill finally being allowed to continue his Superman journey.
James Gunnmay not feel the same. As someone who had his own ideas about the world of DC, Gunn may want to put aside the characters that other people have played around with and start with a brand-new set of shiny toys. This would explain why so many big projects are falling like dominoes as we head towards some kind of official rundown of what the DCU will deliver in the coming years.
The biggest risk facing a Gunn/Safran revolution that doesn’t involve Cavill’s Superman is that this is something fans have made it clear they want. In fact, it is possibly the only consistent wish of DCU fans right now. From the fiasco ofZack Snyder’s Justice Leaguerelease, it is clear that those fans will rally hard against the things that disgruntle them. Removing Superman from the plans of the DCU could see fans turning on DC Studios before a single movie comes out of the gates.
