Unfortunately, the actress won’t be doing any actual driving in the movie. And she’ll only be on the set for one day. Vin Dieselrevealed onInstagramyesterday that it was an “honor and joy” to work withHelen Mirren, although no details were given for her role. The photo showsVin Dieselsporting a traditionalFast & Furiouslook with a sleeveless shirt, whileHelen Mirrenis dressed far more elegant. We don’t know any details about whatVin Diesel’s Dominic Torreto andHelen Mirren’s unknown character may be discussing in this photo, but we’ll be sure to keep you posted with more details as they emerge.
Regardless of who she’s playing,Helen Mirrenis just the latest addition to an all-star ensemble cast ofFast & Furious 8. Franchise regularsDwayne Johnson(Hobbs),Jason Statham(Deckard Shaw),Michelle Rodriguez(Leti),Lucas Black(Sean),Tyrese Gibson(Roman),Ludacris(Tej) andKurt Russell(Mr. Nobody) all reprise their roles from the previous movies. They will be joined by a host of newcomers includingCharlize Theronas the new villain Cipher,Kristofer Hivjuas her second in command,Scott Eastwoodin an unknown role and it has also been rumored thatEva Mendeswill reprise her2 Fast 2 Furiousrole as U.S. Customs Agent Monica Fuentes, although that has yet to be confirmed.
The story will primarily take place in New York, but this production is truly a global affair. Shooting will also take place in Atlanta and Russia, Cuba and Iceland. It is believed that the Cuba scenes will introduce fans toDominic Torreto’s Cuban family, but that has yet to be confirmed. It isn’t known how long principal photography is scheduled to last on Fast & Furious 8, but we know this will be the first installment of the franchise’s final trilogy. Universal has already set an July 14, 2025 release date forFast & Furious 9, and the franchise closes out withFast & Furious 10on August 13, 2025.
