Spoiler Warning: Heartstopper Season One
Within a couple of weeks after the official premiere,Heartstopper, the coming-of-age teen drama, hit the list of Top 10 series onNetflixacross multiple countries. Fans have been excited about the show ever since Netflix announced it would be adapting this novel into a series last year. The show turned into a fan favorite almost overnight, with countless fan fiction stories across social media and fans already eagerly waiting for the next season to arrive.
The British LGBTQ+ teen drama series is based on the graphic novel of the same name by Alice Oseman. The book narrates the story of two teenage schoolboys who develop romantic feelings for one another and about sexuality.

Thefirst season ofHeartstoppertook us through the journey of the two boys and their friends and how they navigate their sexuality through high school – which included both its high moments and the lowest of lows. Many viewers lauded the showrunners for how they represented the LGBTQ+ community in such a positive light and how the actors did justice to their roles.
Now thatseason 2 is officially in the works, fans already have a ton of storylines they wish to see in the upcoming season. Let’s talk about some of these we definitely want to see in the second season.

Elle Confessing Her Feelings to Tao
One of thesweetest moments inHeartstopperseason one was when Tao (William Gao) and Elle (Yasmin Finney) meet and sit together in the art room, further pushing their romantic storyline. While Tao isn’t aware of this, Elle has strong feelings for her friend. However, she is afraid to pursue these feelings and tell Tao about them honestly because she fears it may end or harm their friendship. So, instead of telling him, she confesses what she feels about Tao to Darcy and Tara, and the couple eventually informsCharlie (Joe Locke) and Nick (Kit Connor).

Despite Elle’s constant fear about this, fans of the show are shipping the two friends hard and want to see them become a couple. Considering how close they are as friends, many fans believe they will be just as close to each other once they get into a romantic relationship. Thankfully, things favor Elle, as it is implied that Tao is also harboring some romantic feelings for her in the scene where we see him getting excited about the Instagram messages and movie nights with each other.
The Gang Going to Paris
While there was no mention of this in the series, those who have read the graphic novel are aware that a part of the storyline includes the gang taking a trip to Paris, where many meaningful things occur. Darcy (Kizzy Edgell) sets the ball rolling by getting everybody drunk. With that, Elle and Tao start earnestly talking about their relationship, while Nick finds something out about Charlie that concerns him.
This Paris trip is extremely important for all the three couples in the novel. Hence, fans of the book are eager to see this storyline brought to life in the series.

Exploring Nick and Charlie’s Relationship Further
While we enjoy watching all the characters of this series, Nick and Charlie’s relationship is thecentral focus ofHeartstopperas we follow the blossoming teenage romance between them. Charlie was out to his family when the story began, while we see Nick coming out to his mother, Sarah (Olivia Colman), in the season finale. The finale also establishes that Nick and Charlie are now truly present for each other as we see the two referring to each other as boyfriends when they spend their day at the beach.

With the relationship becoming official in the first season itself, we expect the boys’ relationship to be explored even more and even their dynamics to be tested, which will most definitely include some drama in the upcoming season. Of course, we don’t expect to see the classic trope of “bury the gays,” but definitely, we expect to see some complications arising in their relationship to test them.
However, we feel regardless of all the obstacles they will face, Nick and Charlie’s love for one another is strong enough to withstand all of it. We expect season 2 to show the couple transitioning into a more serious relationship.
We Hope to See More of Sarah
Nick’s mother, Sarah, played by none other than Olivia Colman, was brilliant casting for the show. Her portrayal of Nick’s mother and how understanding and accepting she was about her son’s bisexuality and his new relationship makes a huge impression on the series, even though she hardly has any screen time. Colman is known for her phenomenal performance in various award-winning movies likeMothering Sunday, London Road, Locke, The Mitchells Vs The Machines, and many more.
We hope that the second season takes full advantage of her talent. However, we don’t expect the storyline to revolve around her entirely. That said, we would like to see more than what we saw of her in the first season.
