Today we have word thatGuillermo del Torohas moved on to his next project, withDeadlinereporting that the filmmaker has castSally Hawkinsin anUntitled Cold War Drama, withOctavia Spencerin talks for another role. No details were given for either of their characters quite yet.
The story is a period piece set in 1963 America, described as a “mysterious and magical other-worldly love story.” It’s worth noting that the John F. Kennedy assassination happened in 1963, but it isn’t known if that pivotal event in American history will tie into the story. The assassination is currently the focal point of Hulu’s11.22.63, the exact date the U.S. President was killed in Dallas, Texas.
Guillermo del Torowill also produce with J. Miles Dale (Shadowhunters), although it isn’t known when production will begin. This report also doesn’t specify who wrote the script, but it seems likely thatGuillermo del Toroat least co-wrote the script with another writer, or tackled the screenplay on his own. Since we don’t have a production schedule quite yet, it isn’t known where this project sits on the filmmaker’s development slate, which is quite extensive.
Back in January, we reported that the filmmaker was attached to three different projects, two movies and one TV series. The TV project isNetflix’sTrollhunters, which will introduce a new, fantastical world wrapped around two best friends who make a startling discovery beneath their hometown. The filmmaker is also being eyed todevelop and directthe long-gestatingFantastic Voyagefor 20th Century Fox andScary Stories to Tell in the Darkfor CBS Films, but it isn’t known which of these projects will move forward first.
