Back in April, we reported thatMarvel’sGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2will start filming in February 2016, with writer-directorJames Gunnconfirming in June that he had finished the screenplay for thissuperhero sequel. Last week, he revealed he’d completed a second draft as well. There still isn’t a whole lot we know about the story thus far, but during a Q&A session on hisTwitterpage this weekend, the filmmaker cleared up rumors thatMark Ruffalo’s Hulk will be featured in the sequel. Here’s what the director had to say below.
“I will comment on it now (as I’ve done before) - there is zero chance you will see Hulk in GotGVol2.”
As you may recall, at the end ofMarvel’sAvengers: Age of Ultron,Hulkwas seen leaving Earth’s Mightiest Heroes behind, commandeering a Quinjet and taking off for parts unknown. There had been rumors swirling for months thatMark Ruffalo’s beloved character would surface inCaptain America: Civil War. The actor revealed in an early interview thatRobert Downey Jr.told him he was going to be a part of the movie. However,Mark Ruffalosaid last week that, while his Hulk character was initially in theCaptain America: Civil Warscript, he was cut out because the studio wants to keep his whereabouts a secret. Here’s what the actor had to say in last week’s interview.
“The reason is too great to be revealed in this movie (Civil War). I was in the script but then they removed my character. They don’t want to reveal where is he and why. I don’t even know if Hulk will be back soon. [Hulk] is still missing, [and it’s] not known where.”
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2directorJames Gunnalso revealed that there won’t be too many new characters in thissuperhero sequel, and that he wants the Guardians to get more personal in the follow-up. He also added that it’s important to him that Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) is the only human from Earth in this world, while reiterating thatCaptain Marvelwon’t be a part of his sequel either.Vin Dieselrecently confirmed he will be back to voiceGroot, with the rest of the Guardians,Zoe Saldana’s Gamora,Dave Bautista’s Drax the Destroyer andBradley Cooper’s Rocket Raccoon expected to come back as well.
James Gunnalso revealed during the impromptu Q&A session that there will be 12 new songs featured in the sequel’s soundtrack, and that they are currently obtaining the rights.Guardians of the GalaxycomposerTyler Batesis also returning to score the sequel, while the director added he would love to use characters such as Rom Spaceknight, Popeye, Snake Plissken and Bat-Mite in the sequel, but the studio does not have the rights.
