Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Bringing Back the Collector?

Earlier this month, writer-directorJames Gunnrevealed that he hasfinished the scriptforGuardians of the Galaxy 2, which was so good it apparently brought starChris Prattto tears after reading it. We know the main characters will all be back,Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord,Dave Bautista’s Drax the DestroyerZoe Saldana’s Gamora,Vin Diesel’s Groot andBradley Cooper’s Rocket Raccoon. While we wait for other characters to be confirmed for the sequel,IGNrecently spoke toBenicio Del Toro, who playedThe Collectorin last year’s blockbusterGuardians of the Galaxy, who said he would love to reprise that role, but he hasn’t heard anything official yet.

“I would like to keep working on that character, though. It was kind of like a cameo. I would like to keep developing the character based on what’s written in the comic books. I’d like to see some different sides. I had a blast working withJames Gunnand the cast - but it’s not up to me.”

WhileBenicio Del Toro’s Taneleer Tivan, a.k.a. The Collector may or may not be back forGuardians of the Galaxy 2, his connection to theInfinity Stonesmost likely means he will be featured inAvengers: Infinity War Part 1andAvengers: Infinity War Part 2, but that has yet to be confirmed. While he was doing research forGuardians of the Galaxy, he askedMarvelfor some help in what areas to focus on, revealing what aspects of the character they directed him to.

“[In doing the research] I said, ‘please help me out.’ Because there are big, thick volumes about the characters. So they did point me in the right direction. I learned a lot about the character. One of the most interesting things that I learned about him is the reasons that he’s collecting. He sees himself as putting together Noah’s Ark. He sees himself as having that responsibility. He’s collecting things, because eventually there’s going to be an apocalypse in the universe and he wants to get things to safety. That’s a really interesting aspect of the character.”

Given that the two-part Infinity War movies could bring about the aforementioned apocalypse, with Thanos (Josh Brolin) and his quest to collect all of the Infinity Stones, Taneleer Tivan’s collection could be of utmost importance.
