Gerard Butler’s 2018 action-thrillerHunter Killerhas arrived onTubi, giving the forgotten movie a second chance to find an audience. While the movie has recently had a stint on Netflix, there is nothing like free content that doesn’t require a paid subscription, and that has proved to be a big draw for action movie fans. While Butler is usually seen running around on land, this time around he is taking a deep-dive into the world of geopolitical espionage and submarine warfare.

Hunter Killersees Butler playing Captain Joe Glass, a submarine commander who is tested to the limit when he is thrown into a battle to prevent the outbreak of World War III – well, isn’t that always the goal? After uncovering a coup within the Russian government, Glass must strategically play the game to navigate political and military tensions, take down the bad guys, and – there’s no spoiler saying this – ultimately save the day in the nick of time. On his mission, Butler is joined by a strong cast including Gary Oldman, Common, and the late Michael Nyqvist also delivers a memorable performance as a Russian submarine captain caught in the chaos.

WhenHunter Killerpremiered, it received mixed reviews from critics.Rotten Tomatoes currently lists the film with a 38% approval rating, bringing with it the usual complaints of a formulaic and convoluted plot. However, those complaints don’t really hold much water with fans of the genre, and so it proved as the audience score sits at 67%. Even though fans were more impressed with the film, that didn’t help it make a splash at the box office. The movie made just $31.7 million, which fell below the $40 million budget.

Now available on Tubi, the film joins a growing library of free-to-stream content on the platform and joins hit action blockbusters by other stalwarts of the genre like Jason Statham, Sylvester Stallone, and Steven Seagal. Now fans can addHunter Killerto their list of action movies to get their thrills from this December.
