TheGame of Thronesfan community is in mourning today, with one of the show’s stars passing away.Neil Fingleton, the United Kingdom’s tallest man who played the giant Mag the Mighty onGame of Thrones, died at the age of 36. The actor, who stood 7 feet 7 inches tall, passed away from heart failure in his hometown of Burnham, England. Here’s what the organization known as the Tall Persons Club had to say about theactor’s passingin a statement.
“Sadly it has come to our attention thatNeil Fingleton, Britain’s Tallest Man,passed awayon Saturday. Neil became Britain’s Tallest Man in 2007 passing the height ofChris Greener. Neil started off in basketball in the USA before becoming an actor and starring in theX-men first classand also recently in theGame of Thrones. Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family.”
The Guardianreported the news earlier today, with Sky News also reporting that the actor’s agent,Kenneth Earle, revealed that the actor had an accident around a year ago when he fell out of bed. The accident landed him in the hospital for a week, but he made a full recovery. It isn’t known if this accident had any bearing onhis passing. It isn’t known when memorial services will be planned, or if they will be open to the public.
Thelate actor’s credits also include47 Ronin,Jupiter Ascendingand an episode ofDoctor Who. He was born on July 12, 2025, in Durham, England and was one of the 25 tallest men in the world, measuring in at 7 feet, 7.56 inches. At 16, he moved to the United States for high school to play basketball, graduating from Holy Name Central Catholic High School in 2000. He helped his team to the Central Massachusetts Division I title as well as a berth in the 1999 Massachusetts final game, and a 22-4 record. He played professionally in the 2004-05 season with the Boston Frenzy but was waived in December 2004.
The actor only appeared in one episode ofGame of Thronesas Mag the Mighty, the 2014 episodeWatchers on the Wall, so it remains unclear if thelate actor’s passingwill be addressed at all in the new season ofGame of Thrones.
