Maybe the next TV show to get revived will be the comedy seriesMalcolm in the Middle. Originally airing for seven seasons from 2000 to 2006, the sitcom featuredFrankie Munizas the middle child in the home of a dysfunctional middle-class family.Bryan Cranstonand Jane Kaczmarek co-starred as Malcolm’s parents while the boy’s brothers were played by Christopher Kennedy Masterson, Justin Berfield, and Erik Per Sullivan.
In a new interview (viaFox News Digital), Muniz touched on the time he spent filming the series as a former child star. He revealed that he recently rewatched the entire series and was able to enjoy it as a fan, as so much time had passed and he’s forgotten much of his experience working on the series. Finding that he very much enjoyed the show after the rewatch, Muniz now wonders what Malcolm and his family are up to these days.
“When I was filming the show, I obviously was a kid. We did seven seasons, 151 episodes. I didn’t really watch the show when it was on, but I’ve now since watched the show with my wife. We [watched] all 151 episodes… I realized, ‘Wow, that’s what we were making.’… I can separate myself from being on it and watching it as a fan. I would love to know what the family’s up to.”
Seeing the family again actually sounds like a very real possibility. Muniz notes that Cranston has been working on reviving the series, going so far as to spearhead writing the script. While nothing is guaranteed at this point, Muniz does make it clear that he’ll be there if theMalcolm in the Middlerevival happens.
“I know Bryan Cranston is really into the idea and he’s kind of heading writing the script and getting everything rolling. So, there might be something. I would be down 100 percent. But I don’t know - we’ll see what happens.”

Bryan Cranston Revisited Malcolm in the Middle… Sort Of
In a way, Cranston and Kaczmarek revisitedMalcolm in the Middle, though Muniz wasn’t involved. After the sitcom ended, Cranston went on to star in his Emmy-winning performance as meth kingpin Walter White in the AMC dramaBreaking Bad. For the special features of the complete series, theBreaking Badteam filmed a special scene of Cranston and Kaczmarek reprising their roles.
The scene depicts Hal (Cranston) and Lois (Kaczmarek) in bed after Hal is woken up by a terrifying nightmare. He explains the events ofBreaking Bad, revealing that everything that happened in that show was all just a dream of Hal’s brought on by eating a deep-fried Twinkie before going to sleep.
As for the actual revival, time will tell if it actually ends up happening, but in the age of reboots, the odds of seeing the series come back in some way, even for a one-off special, seem pretty high. In the meantime, Muniz can be seen on VH1’s revival ofThe Surreal Life.
