“Supermanis pure love.” Those are the words of former Man of Steel actorBrandon Routh, who appeared last week at the Superhero Comic Con and ACE Comic Con collaboration held in San Antonio, Texas. Routh famously first suited up as the Last Son of Krypton in Bryan Singer’s 2006 film,Superman Returns. And while speaking at the aforementioned convention, Routh was asked what advice he had for the DCU’s Clark Kent/Kal-El,David Corenswet.Routh answered (perComicBookMovie.com):
“I think the biggest thing for me aboutSuperman is always recognizing the non-physical superpowers that he has.It can be cheesy to relate it to the‘teach a man to fish’ story, but quite literally, that is how I see it.And it’s very apropos to being the thing.”

Superman Returns
Routh continued:
“If you save people all the time, everywhere, maybe they never learn how to save themselves. That doesn’t mean that you don’t save them, but it just means that the teaching, the personality, the aspect, the human communication, the understanding Superman can give us of inclusion.”
Brandon Routh Believes ‘Superman Is Pure Love’
Superman Returnsis one ofthe Man of Steel’s best films. But it wasn’t the only time Routh donned Kal-El’s trademark blue and red Kryptonian suit. In 2019, Routh returned to portray Earth-96’s version of the Last Son of Krypton, who looked like both Ray Palmer, aka the Atom, andKingdom Come’sSuperman when he appeared in The CW’sCrisis On Infinite Earthstelevision crossover event.
However, the death of Clark Kent’s (Routh) wife, Lois Lane, and his friends, is eerily similar to the storyline presented inInjustice: Gods Among Us. Having portrayed the Last Son of Krypton more than once, Routh’s advice forthe DCU’s Supes, David Corenswet, would also include remembering that “Superman is pure love.” Routh also said while appearing in San Antonio:

“To me Superman is pure love,he doesn’t judge. He has to make some hard choices and stop people from doing bad things, but my goal for Superman is that he’s the guy that everyone can be in their person…maybe without all the flying and all the other stuff. But he’s an example, the best of humanity, and he could teach us to do it,not just by his actions, but by calling out the truth.”
