Amazon MGM Studios taking creative control of theJames Bondfranchise from Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson is still a bit of news that has many in the industry still shaking their heads because they’re honestly worried about what will happen to the brand under a corporation that will likely milk it for all of its worth. When it was under the control of Broccoli and Wilson, it felt guarded in a way that would keep it secure from any unnecessary spinoffs and offshoots because they would do what was best for the franchise. Under the vision of Amazon MGM Studios, the Bond franchise could become something unrecognizable, and one of the former actors to portray 007,Timothy Dalton, finds that to be a “sad” notion.
During a chat with The Daily Telegraph, Dalton gave his two cents about theAmazon MGM Studios dealand what it would be like for the British franchise to be under the creative control of an American company that may not have its best interest at heart. Dalton said,“It is one of the few wonderful stories we’ve got in film that is British. The leading character is British. We can call it our own.“From there, he agreed with most out there that Broccoli was the main person in place to protect the franchise from becoming"content.”

“Barbara is one of the best women in the whole world. I think she’s fantastic. Around a Bond movie, everyone’s got an opinion. That tends to make something less special, but if you keep it to people who know what they’re doing and know what they want, then it will sharpen up and be good. Barbara had that.”
Why Timothy Dalton Was the Right James Bond at the Wrong Time
Fate and timing conspired to prevent Timothy Dalton from being remembered as the best James Bond since Sean Connery.
Timothy Dalton Was the Fourth Actor To Portray James Bond
Timothy Dalton portrayed Ian Fleming’s iconic creation in 1987’sThe Living Daylightsand 1989’sLicense to Kill, becoming the fourth actor to portray the secret agent. Even though he only got to step into James Bond’s shoes twice, he does have some authority to speak about the uncertainty of the franchise under the control of Amazon MGM Studios. Because it was in his life before he even got to play the role,Dalton feels a bit of sadness about where it could be headed without the input of Broccoli or Wilson.
“I have no idea what Amazon would do with it, and I have no idea what the relationship of Amazon to the Broccolis will be. But it is a damn fine series of movies. I was watching it when I was young, we all were. It’s been a part of our lives, so anything that threatens it is kind of sad.”

Currently, no decision has been made about the next Bond film and who will take on the role, following Daniel Craig’s last hurrah as the character in 2021’sNo Time to Die. Jeff Bezos, the head honcho of Amazon, recently asked his social media followerswho should play the characternext. Meanwhile, Dalton believes that the role must be played by a British actor because “that’s where it was born.” Numerous names have been thrown out to play the character over the years, thankfully most of them British, so let’s hope that Amazon MGM Studios at least sticks to that. One thing is certain, everyone will be watching.
