With James Gunn now overseeing theDC Universe(alongside Peter Safran), many of his former collaborators are being asked and are asking about potential roles in upcoming DCU projects. Bradley Cooper (Rocket Racoon inGuardians of the Galaxy) made an unexpected cameo inSuperman, andJohn Cena will soon bring his fan-favorite DCEU character,Peacemaker, to the new DC Universe in the second season of his eponymous show. But, there’s another formerThe Suicide Squadstar who is desperate for their character to join the rebooted DCU, especially following the success ofSuperman. There’s just one giant hurdle standing in their way.
David Dastmalchian spoke to Screen Rant at San Diego Comic-Con, and the actor was asked about reprising hisThe Suicide Squadrole in the new DC Universe. Dastmalchian played Polka Dot Man inThe Suicide Squadand started as the film’s comedic relief before becoming one of its most tragic characters. “I’m always ready,” Dastmalchian said about being called to arms once again in the DCU. He continued:

“I’ve got my bag ready. If James were to call me tomorrow and say, “Hey, do you want to come do this thing?” I’d be there. I’d be there before we got off the phone. I hope and pray I get a chance to be on a James Gunn set again at some point in my life, because it was one of the best sets I’ve ever been on.”
David Dastmalchian Explains What Makes Denis Villeneuve and James Gunn Great Masters
David Dastmalchian and Noma Dumezweni share the core genius of ‘Murderbot’ and how it connects to other great science fiction.
There’s just one major roadblock between David Dastmalchian and the DCU: he hasn’t actually spoken to James Gunn about having arole in the rebooted cinematic universe. At least, he says he hasn’t. Despite the pair being best friends, Dastmalchian said that he and James Gunn don’t often talk about work when they’re together, and that includes roles in the DCU. “Never, we’ve never talked about it,” he confirmed.

Who Should David Dastmalchian Play in the DC Universe?
David Dastmalchian has already appeared in the MCU as Kurt, one of Scott Lang’s (Paul Rudd) partners in crime. But, fans are hoping that Dastmalchian will be given a much larger role in the new DCU. There is nearly an endless number of roles that David Dastmalchian could take on. Were he to stick with the comedic side of the DCU, he could potentially be a villain like Calendar Man, or perhaps the criminally underrated Kite Man (Hell yeah!).
On a more serious note, there are several high-profile characters David Dastmalchian could play. He probably shouldn’t take it personally that many fans want to see him play a villain in the new DCU, potentially inThe Brave and the Bold. Many fans agree that David Dastmalchian would make a great Scarecrow. Or, he could play one ofDC Comics' most legendary villains of all time: The Joker.Of course, this is all fan casting and speculation, as it isn’t clear if the actor will ever appear in the franchise. However, given James Gunn’s penchant for casting his friends, it is a very likely possibility.
