Disney has released the first poster forThe Mandalorian. It’s a striking poster that finds Pedro Pascal’s mysterious lone gunfighter against an iconic binary sunset on Tatooine. The live-actionStar Warsseries will be launching with the Disney+ streaming service later this year and fans are really hoping we’ll get to see the trailer that dropped earlier atStar WarsCelebration while at this weekend’s D23 Expo, which seems highly likely at the moment.

Jon Favreau is the showrunner onThe Mandalorianand he recently stated that he wanted to do something different with theStar Warsfranchise. The show has been shrouded in mystery ever since it was first announced, even though we’ve seen plenty of behind-the-scenes images, both official and unofficial. With that being said, the mystery is definitely one of the things that the upcoming show has going for it.Jon Favreauhad this to say about is goal withThe Mandalorian.

The Mandalorian Poster

“I’m trying toevoke the aesthetics of not just the original trilogy. Not just the first film, but the first act of the first film. What was it like on Tatooine? What was going on in that cantina? That has fascinated me since I was a child, and I love the idea of the darker, freakier side ofStar Wars, theMad Maxaspect ofStar Wars.”

Jon Favreau wrote the spec script forThe Mandalorianbefore even mentioning the idea to Lucasfilm because he was so excited about the possibility of it actually happening. He then pitched the idea of, “alone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxyfar from the authority of the New Republic.” The series is set in the aftermath ofReturn of The Jedifollowing the fall of the Empire. In addition, Favreau took techniques that he learned while making the live-action adaptation ofThe Jungle Bookand applied them to the newStar Warsseries.

Specifically,The Mandalorianblends live-action with intense amounts of CGI, according to Jon Favreau. They used the “the Epic game engine” to do real-time in-camera visual effects while shooting the show, which brought upon extensive use of the green and blue screens for full digital versions of the set. The show is able to take viewers to brand-new, highly detailed environments, thanks to the big budgets Disney allowed for the series.

The Mandalorianis all set to premiere November 12th, exclusively on theDisney+ streaming service. IfStar Warsfans weren’t already excited for the new show, they more than likely will be after getting a first tease this weekend. The show will premiere just over a month beforeThe Rise of Skywalker, which should be an excellent way to build excitement for both projects.
