TheStar WarsIP is almost certainly the most expansive and popular one out there. Like theStar Trekfranchise, it has its detractors, but most of its detractors are just individuals who’ve never acquainted themselves with it. Of course, there are more fans than detractors, which should help explain why even moreStar Warsprojects are on the release schedule for 2024, even thoughDisney’s sequel trilogyand the third season ofThe Mandalorianonly served to disappoint audiences.
But, unlike the MCU,Star Warshas yet to feel truly overstuffed. The franchise’s projects don’t feel like events anymore, sure, but there is still excitement even for a mid-season episode ofAhsoka. Why is that? Because, for the most part, the franchise has done well on the small screen (which stands in contrast to the MCU save forWandaVisionandHawkeye). It looks as though the small screen isStar Wars' home in 2024. But, for those looking for bombast, don’t worry, as the small screen holds some big things in store.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch
Debuting in 2021,Star Wars: The Bad Batchhas carved out a nice corner of the universe for itself. The plot follows a group of elite clone troopers who did not join Palpatine after he issued Order #66. Having resisted his cruelty, they go on dangerous missions that often spit in the face of the very Empire their brothers all serve. Both a sequel series to and a spin-off fromStar Wars: The Clone Wars, it’s shown that there’s much animated life inStar Warsyet. Moreover, it seems it’s a show that knows when to end, as Season 3 will bethe animated series' last.
When Is It Coming Out?
The first season ofStar Wars: The Bad Batchpremiered in May 2021 while the second debuted in January 2023. The premiere date for the third has yet to be announced, but it’s not unreasonable to expect it within the first half of the year. Even still, so little is known about the currentStar Warsrelease schedule that it’s really only safe to assume thatThe Bad Batchwill be released at some point during the impending calendar year.
5Tales of the Jedi Season 2
Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi
Now thatStar Wars: Tales of the Jediis officially continuing, it seems Disney+ has more than one successful animatedStar Warsseries.Tales of the Jeditakes place during the prequel trilogy era, with multiple underserved (or in the case of live-action films, unseen) fan-favorite characters. But, not all of these fan-favorite characters embrace the light side of the Force, as half of the first season expanded viewers' knowledge of none other thanAttack of the ClonesandRevenge of the Sith’s Count Dooku.
To date,Star Wars: Tales of the Jediis the most critically appreciatedStar Warsproject of the Disney era, perhaps tied withAndor. So, it’s no surprise that the series was fast-tracked for a second season. Given the fact the first season debuted back in the fourth quarter of 2022, it’s obvious great attention is being paid to the second. While it’s hard for fans to wait, it’s worth it if the final product has a compelling narrative, memorable visuals, and something new to say about the world in which it operates. If any 2024Star Warsproject can pull that all off, it’sTales of the Jedi.

4The Acolyte
The Acolyte
The star-studded Disney+ seriesThe Acolytelooks to be perhaps the most excitingStar Warsproject slated for releasein 2024. Set a century before the events ofStar Wars: Episode I − The Phantom Menace,The Acolytelooks to show an era that’s never before been seen in a live-actionStar Warsmovie or show. Not to mention, considering it will operate as a procedural, it’s a product that’s structurally unlike other installments of the franchise.
Not to mention, it’s going to have a Wookiee Jedi. Alongside that Wookiee Jedi, are a few stars new to theStar Warsuniverse, such asLogan’s Dafne Keen,The Matrix’s Carrie-Anne Moss,Queen & Slim’s Jodie Turner-Smith,The Good Place’s Manny Jacinto, andBodies Bodies Bodies' Amandla Stenberg in the lead.

Considering it wrapped filming in June 2023, the eight-episode project will certainly be released in 2024 (most likely during the summer). Not to mention, footage of the project was already shown at theStar WarsCelebration in London back in April 2023. So, in other words, it’s well on its way and fans don’t have long to wait.
3Skeleton Crew
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew
Skeleton Crew is a Disney+ original series set in the Star Wars universe. The series was created by Jon Watts and Christopher Ford and tells the story of four young kids that must find their way home after becoming lost in the galaxy. The story takes place during the same time frame as The Mandalorian.
Star Wars: Skeleton Crewfollows four kids on an intergalactic adventure home, consistently bumping into a force-using stranger (Jude Law) along the way.Skeleton Crewis still somewhat of a mystery, but it looks to skew a little younger than the other Disney+ series, not that those are so harsh. But executive producer Kathleen Kennedy citedThe Gooniesas an inspiration, which is a tone that should have appeal on the macro-scale, perhaps even converting some newStar Warsfans in the process.

The series, co-created bySpider-Man: No Way Home’s Jon Watts, does not have a firm release date at this point, but it’s undoubtedly 2024 (likely the first quarter). After all, filming wrapped all the way back in January 2023, so the final touches on its special effects are either complete or nearly so. Not to mention, all the episodes' directors have been announced, including Bryce Dallas Howard, returning to theStar Warsuniverse after her experience directingThe Mandalorian. Furthermore, alongside Jude Law is another talented performer joining theStar Warsuniverse. Specifically, Kerry Condon ofThe Banshees of Inisherinfame.

2Rey’s New Jedi Order Movie Will Begin Filming
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker
Tentatively titledStar Wars: New Jedi Order, this follow-up featuring Daisy Ridley’s Rey is a terrific idea, and it starts filming in 2024. With this project, Rey is allowed to truly develop andbecome her own character, unrestrained by an expansive trilogy filled with other characters who also need to receive their due. Not to mention, it should go a long way towards washing the poor taste of theStar Warsprequel trilogy out of disappointed fans' mouths.
The scheduled release date forStar Wars: New Jedi Order(again, a tentative title but certainly not a bad one) is sometime in 2027. Outside of that, not much is known, but it’s fair to expect it in either May or December of that year. Speaking of not much being known, the same goes for the film’s plot, outside the obvious assumption that Rey will be constructing a New Jedi Order. That said, it is known that it takes place 15 years after the events ofStar Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and while that seems like a stretch of time, it’s nothing inStar Wars, makingNew Jedi Orderpractically a direct follow-up to the sequel trilogy.
1Any More Mandalorian, Andor, Book of Boba Fett, Or Ahsoka?
Ahsokahas proven to be a solid success for Disney+, not quite displaying the popularity ofThe Mandalorian’s debut season but performing respectably all the same. It’s also given Hayden Christensen hisbest screentime as Anakin Skywalkeryet, serving as a nice companion piece to Ewan McGregor’s return in fellow Disney+ seriesObi-Wan. Considering the reviews he’s gotten, there’s no reason not to expect him in any subsequent seasons.
Any More of Those Series in 2024?
Will there be moreMandalorianorAhsoka? Yes, those are confirmed to continue just as the brilliantAndoris confirmed to have a second and final season. But,The Book of Boba Fettlooks unlikely to continue, and either way, none of these series will be continuing in 2024, so fans will need to be a bit patient. But, unlikeAndor, there’s no confirmed number of seasons forMandalorianorAhsoka, so they could very well remain Disney+ tentpoles for the foreseeable future.
