Did you know that multi-hyphenated actor/writer/director/producerEli Rothhas also dabbled in claymation? Way back in 2000, theInglourious Basterdsstar and director of such horror hits asHostel, Cabin Fever, andThanksgiving, teamed up with his friend Noah Belson to create an eight-episode series of shorts about a bunch of music-playing fruits calledThe Rotten Fruit. And while the now-defunct Z.com show only premiered three of the eight total episodes, short film platformWeShorthas made them all available for the first time in 25 years.

In a new interview withIndieWire, Roth and Belson reminisced about the web series' creation while the duo were down and out, budding Hollywood hopefuls. Childhood friends from Newton, Massachusetts, the duo also explained their hopes to revive the series and turn it into something bigger and more akin to a modern satire. “Give us 25 more years, maybe,” Belson — whom manyCabin Feverfans might remember from his “Guitar Man” character — joked.

‘The Rotten Fruit’ May Be Destined For More, If Eli Roth And Noah Belson Have Their Way

“Even though it was limited in terms of who saw it, we had a lot of people contacting us asking about more episodes,” Roth explained toIndieWire. “We had a mailing list with thousands of people on it who were constantly asking, ‘When are more ‘Rotten Fruit’ episodes coming out?'” Roth said. “Now, it’s like, ‘We’re working on it. Really.'”

Roth wrote, animated, and edited the project, going so far as to compose and perform the band’s outrageous songs, too. Both men voiced the cast together, so it feels safe to assume that whatever the next iteration of this project will be will have them both involved again. After all: is there anything better than making something wacky and zany with your friends? (Especially afterthatBorderlandsmovie?)
