Paramount recently released the official trailer forDungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, inspired by the fantasy role-playing game franchise and featuring Chris Pine leading an ensemble cast. The new trailer was debuted during the film’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con ahead of its theatrical debut next year on June 05, 2025. While at the convention, the movie’s filmmakers also teased its tone in a chat withCollider.
Paramount Pictures presents the film in association with eOne. It is directed byJonathan Goldsteinand John Francis Daley, who co-wrote the screenplay with Michael Gilio; Chris McKay and Gilio crafted the story. The film stars Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Regé-Jean Page, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis, Chloe Coleman, Daisy Head, and Hugh Grant. It is produced byJeremy Latcham, Brian Goldner, and Nick Meyer.

The trailer suggests that the movie will have a lot of fun elements. Speaking with Collider, Goldstein confirmed that this will be the case, but that’s not to say that the film is an all-out comedy. The idea was to recapture the same feeling players had withDungeons & Dragonsby putting the characters in high-stakes situations while keeping other moments fun and enjoyable, never letting things get dull.
“You know what? We tried to capture the spirit of what it is to play a D&D game, which is life and death stakes one minute, and then you’re laughing your heads off the next. That’s what this movie hopefully is.”

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves Will Embrace Comedic Elements
The movie will be a fantasy story at heart, but it will have a touch of humor throughout. Latcham weighed in by explaining how important it was for the filmmakers to nail the right tone with making aDungeons & Dragonsmovie. With that in mind, it was important to get the right team assembled to help bring this vision to life, and based on Goldstein and Daley’s work as the writers ofSpider-Man: Homecoming, Latcham felt thatDungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieveswas in safe hands with its directors.
“To me, it all comes down to tone. Right? I think the tone that you want to hit is that thing where you’re just like, you’re having this fun, fun, fun time, and you’re getting hit in the heart all the time, over and over again, and you see stuff you’ve never seen before. That’s what these guys do so well. It goes back to me having worked with them onSpider-Man: Homecoming, and reading the first thing I ever read of theirs was just this thing that kind of matched up genres and was hilarious, and heartfelt, and adventurous, and everything else. Knowing that they had that in them and being so thankful to be on this journey with them here to bring this totally huge new world to life. It’s damn exciting.”

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieveswill be premiering inmovie theaterson August 15, 2025.
