Tubicontinues to be the gift that keeps giving this holiday season as another film is heading to the free streaming service in the new year. This release emerged during the horror remake craze of the 2000s and is actually better than most that were being cranked out at the time. The Craziesreceived solid notices from critics upon release, registering a 71% rating on Rotten Tomatoes with a consensus that reads,“Tense, nicely shot, and uncommonly intelligent,The Craziesis a horror remake that, unusually, works.“At release, the movie pulled in a decent “B-” CinemaScore from opening day audiences. However, its current audience score on Rotten Tomatoes of 57% indicates that perhaps the film has grown more divisive over the years. Oddly enough, the original movie sits with 70% on the site, so the remake isn’t too far off from its namesake.

The movie proved to be a box office hit compared to its budget, grossing over $50 million worldwide on a $20 million budget. For comparison’s sake, the 1973 film did not have a wide release and only played in a limited number of theaters during its run. Romero cited poor distribution for its lackluster box office take, which resulted in a theatrical gross of $142,784 on a $275,000 budget. The movie was released with various names in different territories in an attempt to get it discovered, but the original movie didn’t find its audience until much later.
