Talk of the long, long-awaited sequel toDistrict 9,District 10, has ramped up over the last few months, with star Sharlto Copley and director Neill Blomkamp more eager than ever to see the project finally come to fruition. Speaking toComicbook.com, Copley has again asserted his desire to seeDistrict 10made real, revealing that he and Blomkamp often discuss the movie.
“We do. I mean, we came so close to doing it. So hopefully, after his next movie, maybe we’ll do it then.”

It certainly sounds likeDistrict 10is never far from the minds of both Copley and Blomkamp. Unfortunately, we may still have a little while to wait, with Copley revealing thatDistrict 10might not happen until after Blomkamp is finished with his next movie:an adaptation of the popular video gameGran Turismo.
Audiences have been waiting forDistrict 10since the first movie hit theaters way back in 2009.District 9uses various forms of found footage, fictional interviews, and video from surveillance cameras alongside traditional sequences to tell the story of Wikus van de Merwe (Sharlto Copley), a mild-mannered, bumbling bureaucrat who works for the MNU Department of Alien Affairs. You see, in District 9, a giant extra-terrestrial spaceship hovers over the South African city of Johannesburg, with its population of sick and malnourished insectoids being herded into an internment camp, District 9.
The ship has cast a shadow over the city for decades, and the government decides to relocate the aliens to another camp, resulting in one of the aliens, known as Christopher Johnson, crossing paths with Wikus, who is about to find himself the target of a nationwide manhunt.
Sharlto Copley Recently Finished a Draft of theDistrict 10Script
This is far from the first promising update regardingDistrict 10to emanate from the mouth of actor Sharlto Copley. He recently revealed that both he and Blomkamp have written drafts for the sci-fi sequel, and even stated thatDistrict 10could film in a year’s time.
“Yeah, man, we’ve been working. I did a draft, I sent it back to him. He’s done a draft,” the actor said. “It’s like just tiring to find the right sort of story. There were some things going on socio-politically that he [director Neill Blomkamp] felt maybe timing-wise he didn’t want to go immediately. So maybe in like a year, year-and-a-half [we’ll begin filming]. He wants to have something to say.”
With Sharlto Copleyand Neill Blomkamp determined to bringDistrict 10to the big screen, it is surely only a matter of time beforewe discover what happened to Wikus and Christopher.
Until then, Copley can be seen starring alongside Idris Elba in the survival thrillerBeast. Elba stars as a recently widowed husband who returns to South Africa, where he first met his wife, on a long-planned trip with his two young daughters. Exploring a game reserve managed by an old family friend and fellow wildlife biologist, Elba and Copley find themselves being hunted by a ferocious, man-hunting wild lion.
