A new Muppet Show is coming, and this one is going to have some hip stars!According to Variety, Disney+ has ordered an original new series titledThe Muppets Mayhem. The series will follow the colorful rock band The Electric Mayhem!
The Electric Mayhem has a long history with The Muppets. Their first appearance was in the initial pilot forThe Muppet Show, back when it was calledThe Muppet Show: Sex and Violence. The group serves as the house band for the theater where the Muppet Show occurs. The band members are Dr. Teeth on vocals and keyboard, Animal on Drums, Floyd Pepper on vocals and bass, Janice on vocals and lead guitar, Zoot on the saxophone, and Lips on trumpet. The band would be featured in the various Muppet movies and specials.

While they’ve been chilling in the back to give Kermit and the gang the spotlight,The Muppets Mayhemwill put them front row center. The show will follow the band as they attempt to record their very first album. Teaming up with the band will be Lilly Singh, who will play Nora, a human janitor and A&R executive, who will be the band’s manager.

The Muppets Mayhemis being developed byAdam F. Goldberg(The Goldbergs), Bill Barretta (The Muppets,The Muppets Haunted Mansion), and Jeff Yorkes. Barretta and Goldberg are also credited as executive producers, with Yorkes co-executive producing. Also credited with executive producing are Michael Bostick, Kris Eber, and David Lightbody. The series will be produced by ABC Signature and The Muppets Studio. Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, expressed excitement to Variety about the announcement.

The Muppets Mayhemis the latest project involving the Muppets sinceThe Muppets Haunted Mansion, which premiered in October 2021. Before it, Disney premieredMuppets Nowin July 2020. There were plans of a new Muppets series set directly after the events ofThe Muppets Take Manhattan, which would have been helmed by Adam Horowitz, Edward Kitsis, and Josh Gad. But that project was scrapped early on. The idea of an Electric Mayhem starring series is not only exciting but refreshing as well! Here’s to the possibilities of a groovy musical time!
