It sure looks like Rey is tellingBen Solosomething important moments before his death inThe Rise of Skywalker. An 8-second clip from the movie has found its way on social media and one can easily see Daisy Ridley’s lips moving while Adam Driver is reacting to what she is saying. However, the dialogue has been removed, though it is unclear why at this time. Maybe J.J. Abrams will explain this in a director’s commentary down the road.
It’s possible she could be reiterating that she was willing to take Ben Solo’s hand and not Kylo Ren’s. She could be expressing her undying love to him. The fact of the matter is that we really have no idea. However, some hardcoreStar Warsfans are under the assumption that Ben Solo wasn’t originally going to die at all. We know that work was being done on the movie up until a few weeks before it hit theaters and that there were some ratherextensive Star Wars reshootsthat took place.
Obviously, the only people who really know aboutThe Rise of Skywalkerstory and its different iterations are J.J. Abrams, Lucasfilm, andDisney. Adam Driver claimed for months that he has known Kylo Ren’s fate since the beginning, though he went silent about it in the months leading up to the movie’s release. There are Twitter and Reddit threads about how the movie changed drastically in the final edits, though this is unconfirmed at this point.
WouldThe Rise of Skywalkerhave been better had Ben Solo lived? Was he originally supposed to gleefullyslide down the sand dune on Tatooinewith Rey and then look out at the binary sunset, along with the Force Ghosts of his mother and uncle? That could very well be the case and there are some pretty convincing arguments floating around. As usual, we won’t really know the truth unless J.J. Abrams and Lucasfilm reveal their secrets in the near future.
