Deadpool 2hit a bit of a snag recently when directorTim Millerleft the project. He was a pretty important part of the process, or at least it seemed that way, so it seemed like there might be a slight delay in getting the movie in front of cameras. That doesn’t appear to be the case. According to a new source,Deadpool 2will be shooting very soon.

According to the siteWhat’s Filming?, which lists the movies that will be shooting in Vancouver,Deadpool 2is expected to roll film at some point in January 2017. Assuming this is true, it would seem like Fox and theproduction teambehindDeadpool 2have no concerns and that things are moving right along, with or without a director. That being said, if the movie really is going to be filming that soon, the studio will need to get a director hired ASAP so that he or she can get up to speed.

It was recently revealed that directorTim Miller, who directedDeadpooland had a huge hand in getting the movie made in the first place, had leftDeadpool 2over “creative differences.” It was later revealed that those differences had a lot to do with the casting of the mutant Cable. Reportedly,Tim MillerwantedBloodlinestarKyle Chandler, butRyan Reynoldshad other ideas. We have heard rumors that Fox wantedLiam Neesonin the role, but it is unclear who the studio andRyan Reynoldswant at the moment. In any case, the disagreement resulted inMillerdeparting the project and now Fox needs to find a new director.

Deadpool 2is also in need of a new composer, becauseJunkie XLalso departed the project in a show of solidarity withTim Miller. Granted, that is much less important when it comes to the start of production, but it is still a concern. At the moment, it seems like the frontrunner isJohn WickdirectorDavid Leitch, but that hasn’t been confirmed. Whoever Fox gets, it looks they won’t have a lot of time to get ready becauseDeadpool 2will be shooting in about three months. The good news for fans is that the movie will still be on track to come out in early 2018, despite the recent shakeup.

Deadpoolremains arguably the mostsuccessful movieof 2016, having grossed $782 million worldwide from a budget of just $58 million. That makes it the highest-grossing movie ever in theX-Menfranchise and outside ofLogan, which will beHugh Jackman’s last go as Wolverine next year, it doesn’t seem like Fox has a whole lot more planned with their mutant franchise. So, it makes sense that they would want to keepDeadpool 2on the fast track. Let’s just hope they don’t rush it and compromise the integrity of the movie in the process.
