‘28 Years Later’ Just Broke a Record That Raises the Bar for Every Other Horror Movie This Year

Since pre-sale tickets became available Tuesday, ‘28 Years Later’ has outpaced ‘Sinners’ & ‘Final Destination: Bloodlines.’

“At the end of28 Weeks Later, it appears to have arrived in Paris,” the director continued. “But the idea of our subsequent films is that the virus has been driven back to the mainland of the UK.” While the rest of the world might have survived the outbreak, the UK has become a containment zone for the Rage Virus, leaving everyone within it to fend for themselves. Boyle revealed that the containment is part of the rest of the world’s plan to eliminate the virus. But, in true horror movie fashion, it hasn’t quite gone to plan. He continued:

“Really, what the authorities have done is gone, and this is the UN or the EU, or whoever, has gone ‘Let it burn itself out there.” And it hasn’t. Because nature will find a way. The virus isn’t going to burn itself out, it’s going to find a way to survive. And it’s mutated, and it’s mutated in different directions as well."

‘28 Years Later’s Trailers Have Teased the Virus’s Mutations

Thesurvivors in28 Years Laterall inhabit an isolated island off the coast of the UK, which has a single, flooded connection to the mainland. Those who venture into the contaminated territory do so knowing that no one will come to rescue them.

The trailers for28 Years Laterhave teased some of the mutations that have affected the Rage Virus. One of the most prominent examples is how some zombies have learned to stalk their prey, sneaking behind them and pouncing. But we will have to wait until June 20 to see the full effect of the virus’s mutations on the big screen.
