Dark Alternate Universe in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Concept Art
Concept artist Thomas du Crest, who has contributed his talents to other MCU films such asSpiderman: Far From HomeandThor: Love and Thunder, also previously shared someincredible never-before-seen concept artfromDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Du Crest’s art provides a glimpse into a potential alternate universe where the MCU took a bolder, more experimental approach. The concept art showcased a series of Zombie Doctor Strange iterations set in a dark and twisted wasteland filled with countless dead versions of the character. This setting was designed to evoke a haunting, otherworldly feeling and provide a dramatic contrast to the MCU’s typical fantastical visuals.
Unfortunately, the final film took a safer route, opting to rework the concept around a ‘Mirror Universe’ with just one evil Doctor Strange variant at the center. This allowed the film to maintain its familiar tone while still incorporating some horror elements. The final film had a more colorful, illusory feel and saved the majority of its horror and gore for the finale. While the depiction of Zombie Strange was well-received by fans, it did not have the same impact as the grueling, terrifying iterations shown in the concept art. However, the recently released concept art serves as a reminder of the limitless possibilities of the MCU and offers a tantalizing glimpse of what could have been.
