10 Iconic Movies That Get Spoofed a Lot

These movies have become so well-known that they often find themselves as the butts of other movies' jokes.

The actor spoke to JoBlo, and he spewed out some details about his role in the upcoming revival of the franchiseThe Naked Gun. Thespoof comedyuniverse is mostly known for hosting Leslie Nielse’s incompetent cop character, Frank Drebin. The new entry is scheduled to be released next August, and it will be the fourth sequel in the franchise based on the television seriesPolice Squad!created by Jim Abrahams and David Zucker and Jerry Zucker. In the conversation with JoBlo, Hauser revealed which character he will be playing in the movie:

The Naked Gun

“In Naked Gun, I am playing the son of the George Kennedy character from the originals, Captain Ed Hocken. Liam Neeson is playing the son of Leslie Nielsen’s character, Frank Drebin Jr.

It was really a mastery of tone. That’s one of those things where they got the right guy to make it: Akiva Schaffer, who I love. I felt like he and his partners took it so seriously, and they were trying to do low-brow comedy from a high-brow perspective. And how do we make this faithful to the tonality of the originals? And, you know, I think they did. I haven’t seen the movie yet, but everything I experienced, everything I shot. It feels like, wow, they somehow captured this and will make many people really happy.”

‘The Naked Gun’ Reboot Is a Very Interesting but Risky Experiment

1988’sThe Naked Gunwas a major comedy blockbuster released at a time when comedy was simply different from what is today. It was so popular back then, that it spawned two pretty successful sequels that kept the tone fresh, and always managed to execute humor that wasn’t exactly politically correct. Some jokes didn’t age well, but perhaps the most notorious aspect of theNaked Gunfranchise is that the third movie was released a few months before O.J. Simpson, one of the stars in the franchise, was arrested for the murder that evolved into the trial of the century.

The newNaked Gunwill possibly try to achieve a comedy style that has laid dormant for some time. Spoof comedies are not very common today, and the tone of theNaked Gunmovies doesn’t get revisited very often. The film is directed bySNLveteran Akiva Schaffer, and the story is credited toFamily Guy’s Seth MacFarlane. It stars Neesonand Hauser alongside Pamela Anderson, Danny Huston, and Kevin Durand, among others.
