There’s more horror to come from the team behindSmile. With the hit horror filmperforming well with criticsand at the box office, it has been announced (viaDeadline) that the producers have now set their sights on developingClown in a Cornfield. The plan is for Protagonist to sell the film at the American Film Market in Los Angeles. Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey of Temple Hill Entertainment are producing while Eli Craig (Tucker & Dale vs. Evil,Little Evil) is on board to direct.
Carter Blanchard is penning the script, thoughClown in a Cornfieldis based on the novel of the same name by Adam Cesare. The acclaimed book had a sequel, dubbedClown in a Cornfield II: Frendo Lives, published in August with plans for another book on the way. While there may be some differences with the feature film adaptation, you may get an idea of what the film will be like by reading the official description forClown in a Cornfieldbelow.
“Quinn Maybrook and her father have moved to tiny, boring Kettle Springs, to find a fresh start. But what they don’t know is that ever since the Baypen Corn Syrup Factory shut down, Kettle Springs has cracked in half. On one side are the adults, who are desperate to make Kettle Springs great again, and on the other are the kids, who want to have fun, make prank videos, and get out of Kettle Springs as quick as they can. Kettle Springs is caught in a battle between old and new, tradition and progress. It’s a fight that looks like it will destroy the town. Until Frendo, the Baypen mascot, a creepy clown in a pork-pie hat, goes homicidal and decides that the only way for Kettle Springs to grow back is to cull the rotten crop of kids who live there now.”

Clown in a Cornfielddoes not yet have a release date. Meanwhile, the producers continue to ride the wave ofSmile’s success. Even withHalloween Endsin theaters,Smilehas managed to hold its own with positive reviews and word of mouth leading to more horror fans watching the movie.Clown in a Cornfieldis another horror story with an interesting concept, though time will tell if it does just as well or better than what’s been happening withSmile.
