Chris Hemsworthsheds his Mighty Thor on-screen persona this summer and transforms into the diabolical Dr. Dementus to take on Anya Taylor-Joy’s titular hero inFuriosa: A Mad Max Saga. Hemsworth’s latest big-screen project made its world premiere at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, so the actor has been busy in France promoting the new entry in theMad Maxfranchise. However, Hemsworth will soon return to the United States because he is being honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. And his friends and creative colleagues,Robert Downey Jr.andMad Maxco-creatorGeorge Millerwill both be in attendance.
The ceremony will take place on Thursday, May 23, at 11:30 a.m. PDT in front of Ovation Hollywood at 6819 Hollywood Boulevard. Hemsworth is being honored in the Motion Picture category, and his will be star No. 2,781. Fans can watch the event live as it will be streamed onwalkoffame.com.Radio personality Ellen K, whose nationally syndicated morning program can be heard on KOST 103.5 FM, will serve as the master of ceremonies (emcee).
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga
A prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road, Furiosa is an action-adventure film that tells the origin story of the headstrong and fearless Furiosa. Set shortly after the beginning of the “end of the world,” Furiosa is kidnapped and brought before a powerful warlord, now forced to work for him. To find her way back home, Furiosa will adapt to the new harsh and arid world as she grows into the Furiosa she becomes known to be.
Miller along with Hemsworth’s Marvel Cinematic Universe brother-in-arms, Downey Jr., will be there to support the honoree, and they will also serve as guest speakers on Thursday. Plus, it might surprise fans to know that Downey Jr., even with such a wide-ranging career and an Academy Award, still hasn’t received his own star.

Hemsworth’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony will take place the very morning early screenings forFuriosa: A Mad Max Sagabegin later that afternoon. To play the evil Dementus,Hemsworth turned to journalingas recommended by his director, George Miller. The role of Dr. Dementus is certainly a change from the heroic Mighty Thor, but Hemsworth said “there’s a similar passion” that went intoFuriosa,which compared favorably to working in the MCU.
