ActorCharlie Hunnamwants to pursue more creative endeavors from the other side of the camera. With more than two decades spent in show business, Hunnam has become quite the experienced actor with his career including a lengthy, acclaimed run in the FX series Sons of Anarchy. More recently, Hunnam has been appearing in a variety of films likeThe Gentlemen,Last Looks, andthe upcomingRebel Moon. He can currently be seen as a main star of the new Apple TV+ seriesShantaramwhich just premiered last month.
In a new interview withTHR, Hunnam touched on what he’s expecting to come next with his career. He explained that his next goal following his run onShantaramwill be to find success as a screenwriter. In fact, Hunnam is hoping that this will become his primary job as he focuses more heavily on his writing, effectively putting his acting career into the back seat. With that said, Hunnam doesn’t plan to retire from acting at all. He’s just thinking that he’ll probably start limiting himself into appearing in only the movies he writes himself.
“I’m trying to pivot basically full-time afterShantaraminto becoming a writer. I’m by no means going to stop acting but I’m going to try and only act in things that I write."
The process has begun as Hunnam says he is working on some different projects already. Along with various screenplay ideas, the actor is also said to be writing a TV series. The show is set in Hunnam’s hometown of Newcastle, England, and takes inspiration from the actor’s late father.
“I’m starting to get some real traction and I hope to unveil some of this stuff over the next couple of years.”

A Sons of the Anarchy Return Isn’t Out of the Question
Even a return to the world ofSons of Anarchyis something that can happen if Charlie Hunnam only appears in his own projects. Last month, he toldAccessthat he actually had an idea in mind for how to bring back his character in a new story. It sounds like Hunnam has his own vision for how Jax could come back, and that might mean that he’d be doing the writing for it himself. As stated in the interview:
“I have an idea that I’m exploring in its infancy where that could be a possibility. It would be something that I would be incredibly excited about, so we’re sort of, like I said, in the infancy of exploring the viability of the idea.”
Time will tell what ends up happening with the teasedSons of Anarchyrevival, but enjoy those Hunnam performances now, as we may not be seeing him on camera as much as he pursues more of his writing endeavors.
