Cameron Diaz, the Hollywood star of films likeThe Holiday,Charlie’s Angels, and most recently, the Netflix action featureBack in Action, is open to reprising her role in a sequel to the film that shot her to fame:The Mask. Diaz is currently promoting her return to the industry after a long hiatus of almost 10 years during which she focused on her family, trading the Hollywood spotlight for being a dedicated mother. Nevertheless, 2025 saw the return of Diaz (alongside Jamie Foxx) withBack in Action.
When speaking to Access Hollywood aboutBack in Action, questions about possibly reviving the plans for sequel toThe Maskdidn’t take long to arrive. The less said aboutSon of the Mask, the better; it wasn’t really associated with the first film (Ben Stein was the only returning actor), and is firmly in the pantheon of the worst sequels ever made. So, ignoring that flick, the idea of Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz returning to the IP is exciting. Carrey has already claimed that he’s willing to wear the yellow suit and the green mask againif the idea is right. But what about his partner in the film, Tina Carlyle, asplayed by Cameron Diaz? This is what Diaz said:

Oh my god, did he say that? If Jim’s on board, I mean, I’ve been riding those coattails from day one.
Of course, Carrey fans have been dreaming ofThe Mask 2ever since Jim Carrey became a hilarious star. However, the possibility of a sequel toThe Maskfaded away with time, as Carrey seemed to carefully select his roles, often gravitating towards drama. So couldThe Mask 2work in today’s context? The only way that the film could work is by Jim Carrey’s ability to revisit the comedic genius he once displayed every second. Mix that with a creative mashup between CGI and practical effects and Diaz’s full return as the beautiful Tina. The only request would be no babies wearing the mask, as it did not work well forSon of the Mask. Not well at all.

But What About a ‘Charlie’s Angels’ Sequel?
The same interview quickly drifted to another exciting sequel — one for the movie adaptation of the 1970s TV phenomenon,Charlie’s Angels. The first movie, released in 2000, saw Diaz play Natalie Cook, one of three private investigators who solve crimes while following the orders of a mysterious millionaire named Charlie Townsend. Their only contact with him is through Charlie’s assistant, Bosley.
Charlie’s Angelswas a box office success that was followed up by the 2003 sequelCharlie’s Angels: Full Throttle. When Diaz was asked about a possible sequel toCharlie’s Angels, she said that it would be “amazing” and quickly pitched the idea for her co-star inBack in Action, Jamie Foxx, to play Bosley, replacingthe controversial Bill Murray.
