Wild Eye Releasing has released the official trailer forCaddy Hack, an indie horror flick with killer gophers on a golf course. Of course, the title is a play onCaddyshack, the classic comedy movie by director Harold Ramis that featured Bill Murray’s character feuding with a cunning gopher. The gophers are much more dangerous inCaddy Hack, as you may find out from watching the trailer for the horror movie below.

In the movie, per the synopsis, “a struggling golf course suffers a string of caddy murders at the paws of pesticide-mutated gophers, while the greedy owner of the facility tries to cover up the carnage and an unhinged groundkeeper wages all out war on the vicious vermin.”

Caddy Hack

Light on budget but heavy on entertainment value,Caddy Hackis set to have its world premiere at Kevin Smith’s Smodcastle theater in Atlantic Heights, New Jersey on Aug. 11, followed by a home entertainment release in October. It is written and directed by Anthony Catanese (Hi-Fear,Girls Just Wanna Have Blood,Sodomaniac), who produced alongside Sara Casey, Scott Miller, Jim Gordon, Joseph Kuzemka, and Rob Hauschild. The film stars Jim Gordon, Jake Foy, Chrissy Cavallo, Nick Twist, Ilene Sullivan, and John Evans.

It’s not a big surprise to seehorror-themedversions of classic stories anymore. Just recently, the release of the horror parody filmWinnie the Pooh: Blood and Honeygarnered a lot of attention in addition to financial success, and there’s now a sequel in the works. It’s also been announced that horror versions are in development forother classic stories likePeter Pan,Bambi, andSleeping Beauty.

Killer Gophers Are on the Attack in Caddy Hack

Before unleashing killer gophers, Catanese recently directed a segment for the anthology horror filmHi-Fear. That film will be released imminently, set to hit digital on June 13 with a DVD release following on July 11. While speaking withBlazing Minds, Catanese also teased other upcoming projects, which includedCaddy Hack, which didn’t have its title yet at the time.

“I currently have a gold comedy/horror film coming later this year,” he said. “My production company is currently in preproduction of two horror films. One is a shark film and a darker more serious thriller. We also have a bunch of music videos coming in the next few months.”

On the advice he could give to other filmmakers looking to make their own movies despite having limited resources, Catanese added, “Pick up a camera, phone, camcorder and just go out and do it. There’s really no excuse people can have for not filming a movie nowadays. Everyone has a full production studio right there in their pockets! Just write a story you know you can film and film it. You’ll probably fail, but don’t be afraid of that, that’s how you learn.”
