Universal Pictures is banking on just that because the studio is moving forward with a biopic about the performer, and they’ve tapped the director ofWickedto bring it to life.

PerVariety, Universal Pictures is moving forward with a biopic based on Britney Spears' life. The film will take its inspiration from the New York Times best-selling memoir,The Woman in Me, which has sold 2.5 million copies across all formats. Helming the project is Jon M. Chu, who is no stranger to working with Universal as the man behind the camera on their upcoming adaptation of the Broadway musical,Wicked. There is no other info on the film at this time, but Spears did tease that something was coming on her X page earlier today.

Film Rights for Britney Spears' Memoir Were Up for Grabs Soon After Its Release

The Woman in Mewasbeing eyed by several buyersback in October 2023. Reports indicated that bids were coming in soon after its release and that there were options to move forward with a film, TV series, or documentary. Universal Pictures ultimately won the rights to the memoir, which is likely to be another big financial move for Spears, who originally signed a $15 million deal in 2022 to write a book about her life. In addition to Chu stepping into the director’s chair, Marc Platt will produce the project.
